Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Murphy.
Hi Tiffany, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started in the field of Clinical Mental Health counseling in 2015. I worked in a private in the north suburbs of Houston. Under the leadership and guidance of the owner, I was able to learn the business of private practice. In 2019 I decided it was time to make my dream a reality and I opened an office in the city. I wanted to create a private practice where counseling was accessible, affordable, and approachable. Initially, I was afraid to completely step out of the boat so I split my time between my practice and the practice where I started. It took time for my practice to grow and there were days when I questioned whether or not I was really where I was supposed to be. At the beginning of 2020, I started to see things turn around, when the pandemic hit I found myself working 6 days a week to keep up with the demand. I eventually had to hire some administrative support because I wasn’t providing the customer experience that I desired. By October of 2020 several associates had joined the practice and the business was growing. In the fall of 2020, I was also allowed to work with some Master’s level students from the University of Houston. This collaboration allowed me to bridge the gap between those who can afford counseling and those who have a desire to engage in counseling but didn’t have the resources. By October of 2021, I was working completely for myself, and the team that started with one therapist is now comprised of a team of thirteen amazing LPCs and LPC-A’s and fifteen Master’s Level students.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road it has been filled with ups and downs, however, I wouldn’t change a thing. Everything that I learned along the way has prepared me for the place that I am now in. The biggest challenge has been trusting the process, in business there is a natural ebb and flow. Things don’t always go as planned so you have to be fluid and flexible. Learning to expect the unexpected in business has served me very well.
We’ve been impressed with The Murphy Wellness Retreat, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Murphy Wellness Retreat was created to make Mental Wellness a way of Lifestyle. I believe that there is an amazing group of therapists at The Murphy Wellness Retreat, we all have a unique point of view and approach to therapy, however, we all share the passion and zeal for helping people. I believe that you have to find the right therapist for you. The first therapist you try may not be a good fit but don’t give up on finding one. At The Murphy Wellness Retreat we have created a space where the healing work can begin for those who have never tried counseling, or the healing work can continue for those looking to return. Week after week we see families being healed and lives being changed for the better.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I’m from Chicago, so my favorite childhood memory involves me spending time riding my bike alongside Lake Michigan. I love water as it has always provided a peaceful and calming element for me.
