Exploring Life & Business with Travis Nixon of Always Reliable Medical Staffing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Travis Nixon.

Travis, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2010, I was working for an oil and gas company when I was asked by a friend of mine to help him with a project. He was wanting to open a Medical Equipment distribution company. Neither of us had any experience in this field but the idea was brought to him by another friend. He asked me to be involved because of my technological experience as well as my business and operational skills. After 10 years of helping him set up and run his company, I felt my time had finally come and began researching different business opportunities. With COVID being very much on everyone’s mind we thought Medical Staffing would be a perfect choice for this climate. We contracted with a consulting firm that helped start medical staffing companies and Always Reliable Medical Staffing was born.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has been far from a smooth road. My business partner and I were determined to get fully immersed in the business for the first 3 months which of course had a steep learning curve. We were then able to hire a few employees to scale the business.

Always Reliable Medical Staffing is a full-service staffing firm serving medical facilities in the greater Houston area. With a hands-on approach, we are able to offer a completely customizable approach for each of our clients in order to really serve their staffing needs. We are proud to be in the trenches every day both on the sales and recruiting side to make sure all of our staff as well as our clients are happy.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important thing I have learned along the way is when you are starting a company there is no such thing as being too involved. As you grow you are able to delegate more and trust employees as they grow with you but, in the beginning, you have to be hands-on, every step of the way
