Today we’d like to introduce you to Ursula Wright
Hi Ursula, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started Main Street soft Play in 2022 after I had my son and when I was planning his first birthday party. I was looking for something fun for him to enjoy at his birthday party and came across soft play and decided to do my own set up for his party and from there I started renting out to friends and family and that is essentially how main street soft play got started. I really enjoy customizing soft play set ups to match party themes. The majority of parties today are based around a specific theme and so I specialize in printing out, personalized decals or stickers and putting them on the ball pit and blocks to match party themes . I am based in Baytown, Texas, but my customers are all over the greater Houston area so I’ve done parties in Houston, Spring, Baytown, League city and so on. Soft Play is a great way to ensure that babies and toddlers enjoy their birthday parties in a safe way and it takes stress off of the moms who usually are the ones planning the parties.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I haven’t run into any major huddles since starting Main Street soft Play however, running any business takes a lot of time, work and dedication. Soft Play may look like it’s an easy business to run, but there are a lot of things that are involved to make the business run smoothly, for example cleaning the equipment, setting up, delivering, picking up the equipment after the event, marketing, and taking time to make designs. All of that takes a lot of time and effort. Additionally, there are busy seasons and slow seasons. Summer time seems to slow down a bit because most people are focused on taking vacations. However, I have learned to lean in to the slower seasons and spend that time with my family and be grateful during the busy seasons. and lastly, I did have another baby in early 2024 so the last half of 2023. I did have to take a break from completing any soft Play jobs as it involves a lot of physical labor.
As you know, we’re big fans of Main Street Soft Play. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
What sets Out my soft Play company apart from others in the Houston area is that I automatically include customizations to match any birthday party theme. Each booking I work closely with my client to get an idea of their color scheme and the overall vibe that they are going for to make sure that my soft Play collaborates with that. I am a one woman show and I take a lot of pride in my work and I have a five star Google rating.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I wouldn’t say that luck has really played any part in my business. My business has succeeded because of dedication and hard work and me not giving up.
