Exploring Life & Business with Valerie Carter of VK Consultant Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Valerie Carter.

Hi Valerie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi thank you for having me. I’m Valerie Carter, I have the pleasure of being a wife, mother, and a grandmother. While being all of those wonderful things I am also a CEO. The beginning of my journey started when I entered Corporate America. It was through the doors of an insurance company and immediately noticed problems that required operational adjustments. The company would increase staff rather than fix the problems at their root. With more than 36 years of Healthcare Administration, problem solving is the foundation of VK Healthcare Group, LLC.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My biggest challenges were my insecurity and fear of failure. I had to find the internal fortitude to believe in my own ability to sit at the table with decision makers who were considered moguls in the business. Learning how to navigate the system as a woman and a woman of color led to sleepless nights that played into those insecurities. Accepting failure as a part of the process was a paradigm shift that I had to make in order to move forward. The ultimate challenge was finding a balance between my family life, pursuing my goals, and meeting the needs of my clients.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Following in the footsteps of my parents, who were also entrepreneurs, I launched my consultant firm 19 years ago. Combining my expertise in healthcare administration with a talent for building trust and relationships with clients. My clients are physicians who have come up against financial or operational challenges. They have established practices, including hospitals, labs, and other health care organizations. VK Consultant Group performs a complete assessment and then creates an action plan for them to follow. In addition, what makes us stand out, is our hands-on approach giving them access and creating trust and confidence in our ability to make their practices successful.

As a female entrepreneur, I aspire to be a role model for other women trying to balance family responsibilities while also creating opportunities to be their own boss, share their special talents, and take the entrepreneurial leap. I believe that I am a luminary of self-growth and how to live life victoriously.

The Love & Victory Show with Val is a radio show and podcast that I created to utilize my knowledge, wisdom, and love for people. I encourage listeners to focus on their mental health and recognize that they are not alone in their life struggles. I understand how overwhelming and challenging life can get, and I am here to say, “you are not alone,” and provide encouragement and practical resources that can help.

Additionally, when I am not helping the listeners find their inner light on The Love & Victory Show with Val, I shine my light on people with disabilities and advocate for them. Through partnerships and programming, I identify and improve social maturity skills for those without the capabilities through my non-profit organization, L&V Enterprise Resources Inc.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
My father taught me my first lesson which is if you are going to be in business, then be about business. I then learned that there is no job too small or beneath me, it is important to do it all and learn absolutely everything.

As I have moved my business through many phases, I have learned to take time to listen to my inner voice, ask questions, gain an understanding of what I want to do, and then do it! Remembering my “Why” and drowning out the noise has allowed me to keep moving forward.

Having gone through the process of learning all the facets of operations and having a supporting and loving husband by my side gave me confidence to leave corporate America to walk into my passion and my dream. A lot of times we have no idea that the everyday training we go through will payoff. Looking back, I learned so much on the journey and it has helped me to become a successful businesswoman.

I challenge women, especially women of color to never minimize anything, keep studying, perfect your craft, and continue to learn and grow.

Becoming successful in your chosen profession as a boss requires tenacity and dedication to stay the course and demands that you understand all facets of your craft. It is how you set yourself up for success!
