Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Capehart.
Hi Vanessa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After having my 4th baby, I just wanted to feel skinny. I had birthed three of them in four years and wanted nothing more than to look waif thin because somehow I thought that would make me feel beautiful and worthy. So I did what most women do, I went to the gym and started killing myself on the cardio machines. Occasionally, I would pick up a few light dumbbells in the “Women’s Only” section of the gym. This just left me tired and shapeless.
So I started doing my research and trying something different; I mean what I was currently doing wasn’t giving me the feelings of beauty and confidence I thought it would. I started shifting my focus from cardio to moderate resistance training, and I felt- strong! I had no idea my body could do that! So I kept indulging in all the information I could and testing my strength in the gym- I even moved from the women’s gym out into the world of the general public.
I remember one day in the gym watching another woman deadlifting 225 pounds and telling my husband, “Dang! I wish I could do that! She’s amazing!” So I practiced, and practiced, and practiced, and, well- you get the point. Now her 1 rep max is my warm-up. I wonder how strong she is now!
I wanted to be the woman that other women looked at and became inspired to do things they never thought they could do. So, I became that woman.
Although I do train men through online programs, my focus is helping women feel their best and strongest. Yes, weight loss may be a goal we can work on through proper nutrition, but getting women to shift the focus from becoming less to becoming MORE lights a fire under me. I want to break the bonds of fad dieting, diet culture stigmas and quick fix scams that ultimately bring us disappointment and waste our money. Bringing the tools to improve people’s quality and longevity of life has given my life purpose and excitement.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Smooth? Hardly!
In this industry, turnover is relatively high. I completely get that people want to look a certain way or set a timeline for themselves, but it’s my job to help set realistic expectations. The amount of time it takes to get to where you want is generally longer than they have in mind. I will never set unhealthy goals for my clients- which may mean it takes longer. But honestly, using unhealthy practices will cause more damage and time in the long run. A little more time upfront will save time in the future!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Sweat Equity Training & Nutrition?

What are your plans for the future?
As the heat begins to subside this fall (fingers crossed), we hope to begin offering some fun pop-up group classes in varying areas to encourage friends and neighbors to kick off their fitness or change the pace of their current plan.
And- in anticipation of our growth, we look forward to opening a larger facility to accommodate many, many more people as we love to inspire people to take control of their health and wellness through weight training and corresponding nutrition.
