Exploring Life & Business with Veronica Smith of Chris and Mae’s Design

Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronica Smith.

Veronica Smith

Hi Veronica, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey to interior design began far before I even realized. Growing up in the competitive dance world, I always had an affinity for the arts, pageantry, and presentation. I was the “creative one.” My family or friends would ask for advice or assistance toward fashion, hosting, and home design.

After an extensive career in luxury retail management, I felt the need for a creative pivot into an area that would truly challenge me. In 2018, my father received a diagnosis that rocked me and my family to the core. Suddenly, days were no longer to be taken for granted. I resigned from the only career I knew with a decent savings and no true plan.

Within three months, my cousin approached me with the opportunity to renovate her kitchen. While I’d done multiple furnishing and decor projects over the years as a hobby, renovating a kitchen was just the challenge I needed. Shortly after, Chris+Mae’s Design was formed. It has been nonstop ever since!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No business is without its lessons and bumps in the road along the way. Interior Design is a people-based industry from the client to your vendors to contractors. Managing multiple personalities can stretch you in many directions. However, maintaining a positive and solution-based mindset has resulted in powerful personal growth for me. That is priceless, and the next client is always better off for it.

We’ve been impressed with Chris and Mae’s Design, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Chris+Mae’s Design, our mission is to create contemporary and functional designs that highlight the character of not only the home but of the people who dwell in them. We skip monotony to produce interiors rich in texture, luxe textiles, thoughtful layers, personalized character, and well-styled “wow moments.”

We specialize in residential and boutique commercial interior design. From the build-out process and design concept to fixtures, finishes, and furnishings, we handle it all.

I am most proud of how proud our clients are of their finished spaces. Our clients fully live in and enjoy their C+M-designed homes!

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I am an avid traveler, a girl’s girl, a foodie, and a proud Auntie of 5! A ton of my design inspiration and point of view is influenced by my travel destinations and restaurant experiences.
