Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Goldstein.
Hi Victoria, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a vocational Architect. As a child, I used to travel a lot and always felt inspired by urban design and natural landscapes. Since a very early age, you would always find me creating spaces or breaking down stuff and putting it back together in some stylized way….
After Architecture School in Buenos Aires I decided to go to London and study at the Architectural Association, which was a game changer. I was exposed to a level of technology and aesthetics that Ied me to work for world-renowned firms, such as Zaha Hadid Architects and Arup. Once I moved to Houston, I was able to open my firm, VG studio, where I started designing a range of items at very different scales, from digitally designed and fabricated furniture to a spectator landscape area for Houston’s Downtown Skatepark!
VG Studio has since evolved to a highly custom residential and commercial design/build firm. Integrating the warmth of having grown up and designing in Argentina with my experience studying and working in London has unfolded in a truly unique form of collaborative practice. Houston’s international nature has always felt like to home and allowed me to work on many levels with clients and colleagues.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The way has not always been smooth. Architecture and more specifically the Construction business is still, to this day, extremely male-dominated. However, Design is a multi-disciplinary task, and I have found allies in many male counterparts to help me navigate this kind of barrier. Mainly, the barrier of people’s perception of what an Architect or a Builder is and what they are supposed to look like. I like to put this out in the open because I hope young female Architects don’t get discouraged by it, but rather “get creative” in finding ways to project their knowledge and talent out into the world.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about VG Studio?
