Today we’d like to introduce you to Will Vaughn.
Hi Will, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When I met my wife, we bonded over two things: our love for Houston, and our passion for being a voice for the voiceless. I was working as an associate attorney for a reputable criminal defense firm, but Kate always saw the potential for more. Our journey to marriage, parenthood, and homeowners was a quick one, but it took an additional year for her to convince me to go out on my own. Due to life circumstances, some seen and some unforeseen (a global pandemic), we recognized that there was no better time than now. We opened our doors without much more than my wife’s belief in me, and my trust in that belief.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been smooth in the sense that we’ve had more success much sooner than we expected. The struggle we’ve dealt with the most is how to strike a good work-life balance. Not the every-day, make sure you have enough time for the kids’ balance. Co-owning a small business together and nurturing a cohesive family unit is no small feat. We seem to have found our stride and are very proud of what we’ve built thus far.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Vaughn Law?
Our firm handles criminal defense and family law. While most of my background is in criminal defense, we’ve branched out to family matters to serve the needs of our community. Kate has a strong passion for family law, as she’s seen firsthand how the judicial system can help and harm families. Our singular most unique quality is client service. When someone retains our firm, we consider them family. Everyone who contacts our firm reaches my personal cell phone. While working the legal side of things is obviously paramount, we strive to be the most reachable, communicative, and compassionate office in the greater Houston area. I think the fact that we’re a family business necessitates this type of representation.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Do it. Now. Like many things in life, there’s never a “perfect” time to start your own business. You’ll never be “ready enough” to be out on your own. Get comfortable being uncomfortable. The freedom to be your own boss and narrate your own story is the most rewarding part of the job.
