Exploring Life & Business with Yvette Perrodin of Liberty Litigation Support

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yvette Perrodin.

Hi Yvette, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When I was just a little girl, I was always fascinated with buttons, and would pretend I was a cashier or a secretary (like my mom.) When I was 17, I worked part time for a private investigator, and on one assignment, I was tasked to drop off some papers at a large law firm in downtown Houston, Mr. Joseph (I’ll always remember his name) asked me what I wanted to do as a career. At the time, I thought I wanted to be a school teacher, but after he asked me if I had thought about being a court reporter, and he explained what it was, my heart immediately knew which direction it wanted to go. After completing school and passing my state test, I worked for a couple of reporting firms, and along the way, acquired a fair amount of clients that regularly requested me. In 2011, my husband, who, at the time, was working in the semiconductor field, as a lead technical sales executive, convinced me it was time to take a leap of faith and start my own reporting firm. I started out small, using a spare bedroom in our home, and a few months later, employed enough staff that it was time to find a building. I was very blessed to find an office manager, Kim Lawson – who is still with me today – to help manage many tasks, so I could still be out in the field, doing what I love to do. In 2016, I realized the company and I needed a strong partner, so Todd, my husband, quit his job, and came to work at Liberty, where he plays a critical role in managing finances, IT, and many, many other tasks. I am still reporting just about every day, and have developed the most amazing friendships along the way.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Owning your own business is never a seamless task. One of the biggest hurdles we have faced, and still do, is being able to easily secure court reporters daily. Our entire industry has a massive shortage of court reporters. Having strong relationships with my peers has helped tremendously, as well as having a scheduling coordinator that takes excellent pride in her work and treats our reporters with the utmost respect.

As you know, we’re big fans of Liberty Litigation Support. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Liberty Litigation Support provides litigation support to attorneys and their support staff, which, in brief, means we help them to prepare for litigation. We support our clients from the beginning to the end, which means service of citations/subpoenas, obtaining medical, employment records, reporting depositions, via stenographic and video means, copying and scanning documents, and trial prep/presentation. We want to help our clients stay organized, so by offering all these services, they can easily access whatever information they need, with one phone call or e-mail. It is important to me, as an owner, to have our clients treated with courtesy, respect, and I want them to know every case of theirs is important to us.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I grew up right here, in Houston, specifically in the Spring Branch area, and graduated from Northbrook High School. I was a quiet girl, but the friendships I had were very meaningful, and to this day, still have those same relationships. I was a very girly girl, who loved fashion, wanted to be a model, and never left the house without being dolled up, which I’m sure I came by this naturally, because my mother was and still is the same way. My family has always been very important to me, and I was blessed to have had a close relationship with both sides of the family, I knew all my grandparents and had many cousins. I grew up simple, but was surrounded by lots of love and support. I married the most amazing man, in 1999, and today, we have two sons, Austin and Noah, 22 and 21, respectively. We recently moved to Grimes County, Anderson, Texas, where we now live on our “family compound,” comprised of my parents, brother and his family, on 37 acres, that were acquired by my great great grandfather, in the 1800s, when he migrated from Poland. Family is truly a gift!
