Hidden Gems: Meet Ada Fiscu of Memory Lane Assisted Living, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ada Fiscu.

Ada, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey began in an unexpected place—in quiet rooms with elderly individuals who needed care. I started as a caregiver, and from day one, I discovered something profound: a calling that resonated deep within my soul. There was something incredibly fulfilling about being present for those in their most vulnerable seasons, about bringing comfort to someone who had given so much to the world and now needed the world to give back. That fulfillment ignited a fire in me. I pursued my RN license with singular focus—to specialize in comprehensive care for this beautiful, often overlooked population. As I grew in my profession, I held various leadership positions in skilled nursing facilities, each role teaching me something invaluable about what excellent care truly means. Eventually, I was promoted to regional clinical consultant, overseeing ten facilities—an honor that allowed me to touch more lives, influence care standards, and become a true expert in geriatrics. But even as I gained expertise and recognition, a dream was taking shape in my heart. I envisioned something different—an assisted living facility that didn’t feel institutional, but rather like a warm embrace. A place where the elderly could live with dignity, surrounded by genuine care and the comforts of home, where top-quality medical care met the warmth of family. I’ve always seen myself as more than a healthcare professional. I’m an advocate for the elderly, for those so often overlooked and undervalued by a society that moves too fast to honor its elders. Our seniors have built the world we live in today. They deserve nothing less than our very best. In 2013, that dream became reality. I founded Memory Lane Assisted Living, and it has been the most rewarding journey of my life. Every day, I wake up with renewed passion, knowing that what we do here matters. We’re not just providing care—we’re honoring lives, preserving dignity, and creating a community where our elders can thrive.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wish I could tell you it was easy, but that wouldn’t be honest—and honesty is something I value deeply. Starting a business is one of the most challenging endeavors anyone can undertake, especially in healthcare. Financial obstacles appeared at every turn. Staffing challenges kept me awake at night. Patient acquisition, licensing requirements, compliance regulations—each presented its own mountain to climb. As a small business owner, you quickly realize there’s no support team—no HR department, no finance team, no marketing department. You are the entire operation. Every decision and challenge lands squarely on your shoulders. I regularly worked long days, moving from one urgent matter to the next. To ensure our residents never went without care, I filled every role necessary—from clinical positions that drew on my nursing background to kitchen staff, administrative duties, and facility maintenance. Whatever needed doing, I did it.
That perseverance became my greatest teacher. Every obstacle I overcame made me stronger, more resilient, more determined. The struggles didn’t defeat me—they refined me and shaped me into the leader and caregiver I needed to become. And I would face them all again, because the reward—the lives we touch, the difference we make—is worth every sacrifice.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Memory Lane Assisted Living is more than a facility—it’s a home in the truest sense. From the moment you walk through our doors, you feel the difference. We’ve intentionally created an atmosphere that replicates the warmth and familiarity of home, because our residents deserve to live, not merely exist.
We’ve limited our capacity to just sixteen beds. This isn’t a business decision—it’s a care decision. With a smaller community, we can truly know each resident as an individual, honor their preferences, and provide the personalized attention that larger facilities simply cannot offer. Every person here has a name, a story, a legacy—and we cherish each one. Our kitchen is open and accessible to residents, a detail that carries profound meaning. It’s the heart of our home, where the aroma of fresh cooking fills the air and residents can feel the comfort of familiar domestic rhythms. It’s where life happens and memories are made.
We provide twenty-four-hour care for elderly individuals with chronic conditions, including dementia. Our dedicated medical team is available around the clock—truly present and responsive. We offer comprehensive RN assessments, on-site diagnostic tests, and physician visits within twenty-four hours on top of custodial care. This level of medical accessibility provides peace of mind for families who have entrusted us with their loved ones.
What truly sets us apart is the community we’ve built. Our residents and their families don’t just receive services—they become part of our family. We celebrate each resident’s life, their birthdays, their milestones, their special occasions. Our staff isn’t treated as employees—they’re family too, valued and respected for the incredible work they do. The feedback we receive most often is that families trust us completely and feel at ease knowing their loved ones are with us. In healthcare, trust is everything. When a family tells me they sleep better at night knowing their mother or father is here, that’s when I know we’re fulfilling our mission. Our cuisine is something I’m particularly passionate about. We prepare meals from scratch using fresh, high-quality ingredients. We believe nutrition is medicine, that what we put into our bodies directly impacts our health. The results speak for themselves: we consistently see healthier outcomes, improved lab results, and residents who genuinely enjoy mealtimes. Memory Lane isn’t just where our residents live—it’s where they flourish, where they’re honored, where they’re loved unconditionally. That’s our brand. That’s our promise. That’s our legacy.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is this: maintaining a professional attitude and treating everyone with respect and dignity is the key to success, especially in healthcare. When I started, I didn’t have all the qualifications or impressive credentials. What I had was an unwavering dedication to treating others the way I would want my own family treated. That simple principle made me stand out and opened doors I never imagined possible. Over time, I gained the knowledge and earned the qualifications. But those came second to the foundation I’d already built—a foundation of compassion, respect, and genuine care for human beings.
I’ve learned that compassion isn’t a weakness—it’s a strength that allows you to connect with people on a deeper level. I focus on solutions rather than excuses, addressing problems at their root. When challenges arise, I don’t ask “why is this happening to me?” I ask “what can I do to make this better?”
These qualities are essential for being both a good professional and a good human being. When we lead with compassion, when we treat others with respect, when we commit to solving problems—that’s when we create something meaningful that extends far beyond ourselves.
This lesson has shaped not just my business, but my entire life. It’s the compass that guides my decisions and the legacy I hope to leave behind. If I can inspire others to embrace these principles, to lead with their hearts while engaging their minds, then I’ll know my journey has had purpose beyond what I could have ever imagined.
