Hidden Gems: Meet Adrienne Jones of The Loc Nest Trap

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrienne Jones.

Hi Adrienne, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I got to where I am today first by completing my cosmetology license. Once finished I chose to focus on cutting and coloring hair. After working at Walmart and Great clips, I began to build clientele at a local barbershop. Most of the people walking in had Locs and also wanted a haircut. I began to research and take classes to learn more about locs. As I began to take on clients, the process of retwisting was so therapeutic and soothing to me. I knew I had found my niche.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Owning my own business definitely has not been a smooth road. In the beginning, as I was building clientele and learning the business I wanted to give up. I was encouraged by other stylists that it gets better and I’m glad I listened. I advertised my business to gain clientele and took classes to get better at my craft. Within just a few months of struggling to bring in business things started getting much better. I was making enough to quit my part-time job. My clients became walking advertisements, and people were coming from all over to get their hair done by me. I’ve been booked and busy ever since making it through that hump in the beginning.

As you know, we’re big fans of The Loc Nest Trap. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?

The premier focus is a salon with a Loctician you can trust where transformations are made. I was born and raised in Houston and is happy to have finally found my niche. The Loc Nest Trap is rapidly growing in Houston, and we would love for you to grow with us. I’m a licensed cosmetologist with professional knowledge in hair care. What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was very creative, and I loved reading. I loved drawing and reading books. My interest was to actually become a ballerina, but obviously, that didn’t pan out lol. The child I was could not fathom being a business owner. My younger self would definitely be in shock. I definitely stayed true to my artistic side by creating art with hair.
