We are Orlando and Liz, the heart and soul behind Alchimia Coffee – a micro-roastery in Magnolia, TX. At Alchimia, we are dedicated to the craft of roasting specialty coffee beans sourced from every corner of the globe, unlocking the distinct and vibrant flavors hidden within every bean.
Our love for coffee started 20 years ago in a small town in New Jersey where we often found ourselves disappointed by the overly roasted coffee that dominated the market. Tired of tasting bitter brews, we set out on a journey to uncover the true potential of coffee, starting with roasting skills and understanding what happens behind the scenes. Our exploration into the world of coffee opened our eyes—and taste buds—to the incredible diversity of flavors coffee offers. We tasted notes of cherries, hints of vanilla, rich dark chocolate, and a burst of fresh berries—all from a single roast. Who knew such complex notes could be uncovered with the right knowledge and care?
After nearly 20 years, we were thrilled to be able to turn this dream into a reality, and by the winter of 2023, Alchimia Coffee was born. Through our hard work and dedication we invite you to join us on this journey, one cup at a time, as we bring the world of coffee to your home and heart.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Building a business, whether big or small, presents unique financial challenges and a significant investment of your time. Beyond that, creating a successful venture demands meticulous attention to every aspect including operations, marketing, sales, financial management, and even a website. These tasks become even more daunting when they are all managed from home to save costs. Furthermore, opening a specialty coffee business in a market that is saturated with low- quality coffee will always be an uphill battle. However, it is a challenge we fully embrace.
The journey has not always been smooth, but it has certainly been an incredible adventure, making all the hard work worthwhile. And we are just getting started. Our vision is to open a storefront in the near future, a place where we can showcase the unique flavors coffee has to offer through our precise roasting techniques and expert brewing methods.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What we love most about Houston is its incredible diversity and vibrant culture. The city is a melting pot of different cultures, cuisines, and traditions, which makes it a fantastic place to explore and find inspiration. We also appreciate Houston’s thriving arts scene and its supportive community of local businesses and entrepreneurs, which makes it a great place to grow and connect.
If there’s one thing we’d like to change about Houston, it would probably be the traffic. The city’s size and the amount of commuting can make getting around a bit challenging at times. However, we see this as a small price to pay for being in such a dynamic and exciting city with so much to offer.
