

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Trickey
Hi Amanda, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I graduated from Texas A&M University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Sciences, with a focus on tourism. During my internship at the Bryan College Station Convention and Visitors Bureau, I discovered my passion for marketing by helping with their website, social media, and design work. This sparked my interest in marketing and led to my first role as the Director of Marketing and Events at the Greater Magnolia Chamber of Commerce, where I immersed myself in event marketing and supporting local businesses. This experience ingrained a strong sense of community-focused work in me.
Afterward, I transitioned into medical marketing, where I spent six years and taught myself digital marketing essentials. I mastered the Adobe suite of products, marketing strategies/campaigns, and social media marketing – diving into branding and short-form video creation before reels even came out.
In 2022, I started my own marketing business, Modern Marketing & Media, which has grown rapidly, serving clients all over the Houston area across diverse industries—from food and beverage to nonprofits to service based businesses, and beyond. Our focus remains rooted in community involvement and supporting local growth. I am currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Greater Magnolia Parkway Chamber of Commerce, President of Tidy Up Tomball, and in the Thirtieth Class of Leadership North Houston.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey has certainly had its challenges. While marketing came naturally due to my passion and skill, the biggest struggle was learning to run a business. Like many new business owners, I faced the challenge of dedicating enough time to grow the business to a point where I could afford to invest in team members who could support its growth. This process took about a year and a half, often working 80-hour weeks to build that foundation and put in the necessary “sweat equity” to reach the next level.
Balancing business growth with personal responsibilities has been equally challenging. Alongside my work, I’m a mom and wife, and I’m also committed to supporting our community in meaningful roles. On top of that, I’ve been helping my parents through health issues, which, along with everything else, has created a lot to juggle.
I’ve learned to manage far more than I ever imagined possible, even if I’m not always handling it with complete ease. Despite the challenges, I’m proud of the progress I’ve made, the business I’ve built, and the positive impact we’re making in our community.

My business, Modern Marketing and Media, is a digital marketing agency based in Tomball, Texas and serving the greater Houston area and beyond. We serve a diverse array of industries, from service-based businesses and real estate to nonprofits and the food and beverage sector.
