Hidden Gems: Meet Aniya Booker of Communion Care Doula Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aniya Booker.

Hi Aniya, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Aniya Booker. I am a certified birth and postpartum doula.

From a young age, I felt drawn to supporting families during birth as a midwife, only I did not know the path to take to do so. Because of this, I was gently mentored by a midwife who encouraged me to pursue doula certification along the way. I have only fallen in love with this line of ministry. My mission is to empower mothers, promote informed decision-making, and cultivate a nurturing environment that respects individual choices and preferences.

I am a recent college graduate and just started my midwifery journey in May! When I am not serving as a doula, I am either studying, spending time with family, or attending church. It is also not surprising to find me at the beach.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This path has been relatively smooth with my only drawback being my location and still attracting in-person classes for school. I used to be located in Huntsville, Tx and would travel to Houston a lot for the families I served. It quickly lead to burnout but an unexpected opportunity helped me decide to relocate to Houston. Since I’m now in an all online program for my next degree, in-person classes are not a hindrance as well.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Communion Care Doula Services ?
At Communion Care Doula Services, I am committed to providing client and faith-centered support throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. My approach includes emotional, physical, and informational support, ensuring a supportive birthing experience for mothers and their families. I believe in the power of faith and compassion to guide you through this transformative journey.

I am most proud that I am able to operate a faith-based business that leaves a lasting impact on those I am able to serve. This is also something that sets me apart from others, along with my educational background. I hold a certificate of completion in Medical Assisting (CNA/Phlebotomy). I have a bachelor’s degree in Health Science and minored in Psychology and Human Services. I am CPR, BLS, and NRP trained and certified, with experience as a birth assistant and previous experience working at two birth centers in Houston.

As for what I’d love to let others know, I will be slowly transitioning from doula work into midwifery as I complete my education over the next 3 – 4 years.

What does success mean to you?
I define success as being a servant and using my gifts to serve others with while doing my best to honor God in everything I do. To me, true success is making a meaningful difference in the lives of others through compassionate service and intentional work. It also means continually growing in my knowledge, character, and purpose. Ultimately, success is living a life that reflects my faith, aligns with my values, and leaves a positive impact on those around me.
