Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Ayala.
Hi Ashley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
After I had my first child, I was bombarded with parenting information that preached the “right “way to parent. I tried my best to keep up, however, ultimately found myself feeling overwhelmed, overworked, guilty, and not good enough. I had an epiphany one day: it really did not have to be as hard as I was making it. As a licensed therapist and parenting coach, I had all of the research and information on what really matters when raising happy and well-adjusted children. I decided to share this information with caregivers to help them weed through the fluff, shame-based parenting techniques and release the guilt associated with trying to be “perfect”.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The most challenging part was maintaining my own voice in comparison to all of the other professionals and accounts out there. I knew in my heart that what I offer is information that is palatable, relatable, and helpful. Not getting sidetracked and falling into the trap of what other people put out there and the road that they are taking.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The modern parent offers online parenting courses packed with research-based information that teaches parents and caregivers how to respond in a way that is effective and within their own wheelhouse of strengths. I also offer workshops and training to schools on trauma-informed care, social and emotional learning, as well as ways to support students through peer conflicts and power struggles.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Thinking back on my childhood, the memories that stand out the most are the smallest but most meaningful ones. These consist of spending time with family during holidays, playing and joking with my siblings while creating inside jokes that we still laugh about today, and spending time outside
