Hidden Gems: Meet Beth Ferester

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Ferester.

Hi Beth, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After being a realtor for 40 years and being involved with a chocolate business with my son called Lovebeans, I decided to open an artisan coffeehouse next o my real estate office in The Woodlands. We wanted to have a place where neighbors could meet and where we could raise money for local charities. We decided to carry on the name, Lovebeans since it can be cacao beans and coffee beans. We do sell our nutritious chocolate at the coffeehouse.

It has been a journey opening right before covid struck, but we have persevered and have raised money for different charities we choose each month. It is a very synergistic atmosphere and the Baristas make the best coffee from the best roaster in the city. We have, over time, branched out as a breakfast and lunch go-to, as well, using our recipes we have had in the family for years, such as chicken salad, avocado toast, buttermilk biscuits, smoothies, and our famous gluten-free, vegan chocolate chunk oatmeal cookies.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The original struggle was trying to set up and prepare for a business I knew nothing about. I had to rely on others and some were a great help in setting up. Then Covid struck which was a huge impact on all small business’, but we adjusted, made a few changes and have survived with the help of our successful real estate business funding the coffeehouse when needed.

Actually, the worst struggle was staffing and getting the right group together. At this point, we have a fantastic group of workers who are self-starters, creative, and the customers love them.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Lovebeans Coffeehouse, we cater to the community and share our love of The Woodlands, coffee, and food, which enables us to give back. However, without our real estate company being the power behind the coffeehouse, we wouldn’t be able to support our little shop.

We are very thankful for our real estate clients and our customers at the coffeehouse for supporting us throughout a difficult couple of years.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Taking risks is a necessity in life unless you want to stay in one place, never grow, never experience every part of life.

As for myself, I am a moderate risk taker, weighing each situation and the degree of risk I will have. I am careful to take risks that will only affect me and not others. Starting in real estate 40 years ago to help support four children was a risk, then starting my own company twice and then the coffeehouse.

In January, I have decided to merge with a major real estate conglomerate out of New York which I know will be as successful as my other ventures.

These days, so many things are a risk, so it has become a necessary part of living.
