Hidden Gems: Meet Brandy Obvintseva of Gallant Culture

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandy Obvintseva

Hi Brandy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have spent over 25 years as a brand strategist, corporate culture designer, and communications professional focused primarily on B2B industrial businesses. In my corporate management roles, I directed brand strategy, public relations, events, change management, media buying, creative planning, merger and acquisition communications, and product promotions for leading industrial organizations, including Texaco, Nalco Energy Services, Cheniere, and CGGVeritas.

In 2008, I launched Energy People Connect, the industry’s first wholly integrated global social network and social media firm. I recognized the need for collaboration, diversity, and talent management across all energy industry sectors, including hydrocarbon and alternative energy. In 2011, I co-founded Shale Experts, the leading subscription-based platform for business intelligence related to unconventional gas.

I have also served on the development committee of the UN’s International Year of Planet Earth and as the Energy Chair for the American Marketing Association, Houston Chapter. I’m a founding board member and Communications Director for TexSpace (texspace.org), a non-profit strategic communications organization that aligns civil, commercial, and military space for the benefit of Texas. In 2014, I started Gallant Culture, a Houston-based Based Strategic Communications Firm that supports clients in complementary B2B Industrial markets, including Chemicals and Synthetic Biology, Space, Oil&Gas and Geothermal.

I’m an executive coach who has supported and addressed audiences and teams of all sizes on generational and diversity issues, ESG sustainability, change management, global brand strategy, talent management, leadership development, strategic communications, professional networking, and social media. I am a certified Gallup leadership development coach.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from the University of St. Thomas with a concentration in Communications. I reside with my husband, Alex, and our family in Houston, Texas.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road—entrepreneurship rarely is. The journey has been filled with challenges, especially the need to wear so many hats. One of the most vivid memories of my early struggles was the night I was building a complex website from scratch, completely unaware that white-label tools could have simplified the process. I was so exhausted that I couldn’t even make a proper pot of coffee. I forgot to put the carafe under the coffee spout—not once, but twice! That moment encapsulated the overwhelming exhaustion and steep learning curve that come with trying to do everything on your own.

One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is what I call “over-inspiration.” I’m the type of person who sees endless possibilities—everything can be built, created, or brought to life. While that’s a strength, it can also be a pitfall. Without focus and execution, nothing will ever get off the ground. Over time, I learned to recognize my strengths and weaknesses and surround myself with people who excel in areas where I don’t. Partnering with individuals who are strong executors has been essential to turning ideas into reality.

Another key lesson came from reading E-Myth by Michael Gerber, which helped me understand the importance of implementing processes to scale a business. The road hasn’t been easy, but the struggles have been worth it. They’ve taught me resilience, focus, and the value of building a team that complements your vision.
