Hidden Gems: Meet Brittne Kittrell of Art by B Kittrell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittne Kittrell.

Hi Brittne, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey as an artist has been shaped by curiosity, community, and a commitment to continuous growth. I’ve come a long way from where I started, but one thing that has remained constant is my desire to learn. Houston’s art scene has played a huge role in my development, providing opportunities to connect with artists, attend exhibitions, and engage in conversations that challenge and inspire me.

I’m especially grateful for the professors and mentors who have invested in me throughout my education and career. Their guidance helped me refine my voice, expand my perspective, and gain confidence in my work. Today, I see myself as both a student and an artist as well as someone who is always evolving, experimenting, and finding new ways to communicate through art. Each experience, relationship, and creative challenge has contributed to where I am today, and I’m excited to continue growing alongside the artistic community that has supported me.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been making time for my own creativity while balancing other responsibilities. Between work, school, family obligations, and everyday life, there have been periods when creating art had to take a back seat. As an artist, that can be frustrating because creativity needs time and space to grow.

I’ve also had moments where I questioned myself and my direction as an artist. Like many creatives, I’ve experienced self-doubt and wondered if I was making the right decisions with my work. But those challenges taught me the importance of staying committed to the process. Over time, I’ve learned that growth isn’t always linear, and sometimes the seasons where you’re stretched the thinnest are the ones that teach you the most about resilience, discipline, and why you create in the first place.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
As an emerging artist, I’m currently building the business side of my creative practice while continuing to grow as a maker and visual storyteller. My work is rooted in creating meaningful, personalized pieces that reflect both my artistic voice and the vision of my clients. While I’m primarily known for my fine art and mixed-media work, I also offer custom commissions and creative services that allow people to bring unique ideas to life.

In addition to original artwork, I specialize in custom-painted shoes, clothing, bags, and other wearable or functional items. What sets me apart is my ability to blend artistic expression with personalization, creating one of a kind pieces that feel authentic and meaningful. Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the originality behind my work and the relationships I build through the creative process. I want people to know that whether they’re collecting artwork, commissioning a custom piece, or looking for a personalized wearable design, they’ll receive something thoughtfully created, handcrafted, and uniquely their own.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I think luck has played a role in my journey, but not necessarily in the traditional sense. I’ve been fortunate to cross paths with people who have encouraged me, challenged me, and opened my eyes to new possibilities. Being part of Houston’s creative community has allowed me to learn from talented artists, professors, and mentors whose guidance has helped shape both my artistic practice and my confidence as a creative professional.

On the other hand, there have been times when opportunities didn’t come as quickly as I hoped, or when I had to balance my creative goals with the realities of everyday life. Those experiences taught me patience and perseverance. Looking back, I think success has come from being prepared when opportunities arise and continuing to create even when things aren’t moving as fast as I’d like. Every experience, good or bad, has contributed to my growth as both an artist and a business owner.
