Hidden Gems: Meet Bryce Redhead of Red’s Juice Joint (and Smoothie Bar)

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryce Redhead.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Back in 2005, while in college, I started making smoothies for myself. As a full-time student and employee, I didn’t necessarily have time to make meals for myself, so smoothies were a good on-the-go option. Over time, I started experimenting with different fruits and vegetables that I found appealing to my palette but also provide proper nutrient content. In 2011, I started experimenting with juicing to combat my less-than-healthy food choices while working in the oil field as a technician. The constant travel and working in remote locations were not always conducive to a healthy lifestyle. I found juicing to be helpful in aligning myself with a healthier way of living. In 2018, my childhood friend Ian Buchanan told me he planned on owning a gym here in Houston and showed me the site. I noticed it had space built out for a juice bar. I let Ian know that I know how to make smoothies and juices and would be glad to jump on the opportunity. We struck a deal and Red’s Juice Joint was born.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing about entrepreneurship is smooth. One of the bumpiest roads I’ve ever traveled. The journey carries a steep learning curve with essential lessons that must be learned along the way. Luckily, I’ve been in the customer service industry since my first job at Kroger in high school. Understanding how to deal with the public is the most important lesson I’ve learned over the years. It’s helped me navigate my way through the potentially tumultuous territory without unnecessary turmoil. Another lesson I’m learning and honing is to think ahead and properly prepare to prevent poor performance. I.E., having ample amounts of groceries on hand, cups, straws, protein, juice bottles. Essentially, making sure I’m ready to serve my customers on a consistent basis with no major hiccups.
