Hidden Gems: Meet Carrington Polk of HustlePoints Sneaker Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrington Polk.

Hi Carrington, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, honestly, I’ve always been into sneakers, clothing, fashion in general and music since a child. When I got to about 10th grade, I decided to make sneaker collecting and thrifting for clothes a hobby; and was always listening to DJ Screw (since 12 years old) and other music (favorite rapper Z-ro) that I was introduced to on top of being in a band in my younger years. When it comes to actually pursuing fashion, music and sneaker design and repair as a career I kind’ve accidentally fell into doing it all. I jokingly had an Idea that I would create a store doing custom sneakers and repairs all before I graduated High School at 18 years old and after graduating had a friend, Bryce Sanders, come to me and asked me to repair some shoes for him. At the time he didn’t know I was doing this and I really didn’t take this as seriously, it was purely a hobby at this time. Ever since he asked me back in 2015, I have been gaining more clientele the same way he came to me, purely word of mouth or randomly finding me, and chose the last 7 years to focus solely on perfecting my expertise in both areas of Fashion and sneakers as well as making music, since I decided to leave University of Houston to pursue becoming a fashion designer and street a&r/musician independently. At University of Houston is where I decided to make music, but still to this day, purely for the art form and more therapeutic to me… I still take it all just as seriously and try to make everything my best.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has not been a smooth road for me. But it has been very rewarding and the challenges I’ve had along the way helped shape my professionalism and life in a certain way. I’ve had to deal with everything you could think of, coming from a family where it wasn’t much time for teaching, lots was done by the school of hard knocks, even learning about managing money. Until I was able to know exactly what to do, I always made sure from the start that if I wanted to really do, be as precise as I could with my work so that no one could tell my experience level, which led to me completing jobs that didn’t have any types of instruction to them and was my own duty to fix. Much success along the way but I had to go against the grain of my social circle, family and all relationships and dedicate myself to the success and mastery of all of not only my hobbies but natural talents if it meant being successful, taking care of my family, and making it out of an area of town that many people don’t.

No one around me really understood why I did any of the things I done, but it was never for them to. Being the only son, grandson and nephew of my immediate family, I have no one else to really help lead me down a path of true success or any real role models that has pioneered a road like I have. Also, coming from a family that didn’t have a lot taught me how to be very resourceful and always have faith that things would work out. My whole life has been a struggle but we always made things work out so the bumps in the road didn’t hurt as much because I needed to learn more than actually knowing going into all areas of life including business and had to grow up very early in life. Walking a tightrope with very little room for error but lots of room for expansion.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about HustlePoints Sneaker Boutique?
‘HustlePoints’ has more than one meaning, but overall, is an action. It caters mainly to those who are seeking mastery of themselves and whatever it is they do. Working hard to achieve massive success, which sounds cliche but in actuality took the exact action to get this far, seven years in creation and in business. HustlePoints Sneaker Boutique is actually a flagship for a number of departments, being shoe restoration and customization, Limited designed exclusives, clothing and music. It will have an expansion outside of its doors once the main location is built, but for now focus is mainly on providing circular fashion services to the sneaker and fashion world combined.

What sets the store apart is the fact that it has in development its own way of payment and storage in creation, an exclusive socio-economic platform in the creation and also its own line of holistic health products in development by the CEO coming soon in the next few years. This store wears many hats but is on the road to be envisioned as a combination of both a real-world Chamber of Commerce and digital powerhouse with all of its different areas that it is, in its originality of pursuing. Private members club is only dedicated to the real supporters of the brand and its offerings to society.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I wouldn’t say that Luck has played any type of part in my life so much as my spiritual adeptness and mastering of my skills have taken me so far in both life and business. I’ve always been a very driven person since a child, with big aspirations. The only thing I had to do differently was changed my career of what I would choose to go up and down with for the rest of my life and be able to accept where I was. I’ve always looked into myself and faced what held me back and booted me up, as well as came purely transparent in my dealings of business so I’ve never had to face “luck” and maybe that would make me have a great amount of “luck”. Any bad “luck” I had has always been transmuted in my perception to aid me in seeing a silver lining somehow.
