Hidden Gems: Meet Catherine Stewart of Happy Healing Holistically, PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Catherine Stewart.

Hi Catherine, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story began in the woods of Georgia where I grew up being the outdoorsy wild child who learned to love nature and all of its living parts. I had a rough upbringing that made my escape into nature a beautiful and necessary coping mechanism. Today, as a holistically based mental health clinician, I have found a way to incorporate my free spirit and love of nature into helping others heal from trauma and grief. After years (and what seems like lifetimes looking back) I learned the hard way many times that trauma does not heal itself. I have always been an empath and connected easily and openly with people. My goal after many therapists, doctors, psychiatrists, etc was to create my own private practice that focused on the whole person, not just diagnoses, labels and medication. My work focuses on helping humans find their inner peace and create an environment where they can feel truly present within themselves and connect on a deeper level to the world and people around them. Using somatic movement and breath work along with meditation and mindfulness, I have seen the changes in my clients who feel stuck. Spirituality is a powerful tool in therapy as well and I love to learn more about different cultures, religions and spiritual practices that inspire people and meet my clients where they are in their journey. Along my journey, I have developed skills and knowledge that helped me grow into the grown up version of that wild child in the woods and to this day celebrate her by spending time in nature with my two dogs and partner, exploring new places, and engaging others in living life to its full potential.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Haha, I don’t know if anyone can say they’ve had a completely smooth road but mine has not been. Mental health issues from childhood followed me into adulthood and made it difficult to keep up with the expectations of life and relationships. I love learning and my education was very important to me yet with ADHD, anxiety and depression I was constantly trying to swim in unsteady waters with no life jacket. At times, my humor and dogs were all that were keeping me going. I’ve had some pretty wonderful and crazy experiences from all of my travels and opportunities that I wouldn’t change for anything but I can definitely say that the journey has been long to get to where I am today which is finally at peace and in the present.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is when I was 5 or 6 years old and playing outside in the mud during a rainstorm with my dog, who was my best friend when I was growing up before my little brother was born. I have spent most of my life with a dog or a pet by my side in some sense and truly believe that they make life special. I still think about that doggo often and am grateful for the love he gave me.
