Hidden Gems: Meet Charissa Johnson of Harmony Living Solutions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charissa Johnson.

Hi Charissa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Honestly, my journey didn’t start with some big master plan. It started with noticing a need.

I’ve always paid attention to people who tend to get overlooked. Seniors, individuals navigating mental health challenges, and families trying to make the best decision they can during really stressful seasons. Before Harmony Living Solutions ever had a name, I could see the gaps. Too many people were falling through the cracks, and too many places felt more transactional than personal.

At some point, I realized I didn’t just want to talk about the problem, I wanted to build a solution.

Getting started wasn’t glamorous. There were permitting instructions, occupancy inspections, real estate learning curves, and plenty of late nights figuring things out. But each challenge made me clearer on what I was building: not just a house, but a structured, stable home where residents are respected and families can breathe a little easier.

Over time, Harmony Living Solutions became more than a residence. It became a bridge between hospitals and home, crisis and calm. We’ve built strong partnerships, solid systems, and a foundation that balances compassion with strategy.

Today, I see myself as both an advocate and a builder protecting the mission while growing something sustainable. What started as a simple nudge has turned into a purpose driven business.

And we’re still growing.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth? I wish.

There were moments I thought, “Nobody talks about this part.” Occupancy inspections that felt longer than necessary. Paperwork that seemed endless. Real estate surprises that make you stare at the ceiling at 2 a.m. doing mental math.

There were definitely seasons of stretching financially, mentally, and professionally. You’re making decisions that affect real people, real families, and real properties. That kind of responsibility forces you to grow up quickly as a business owner.

I also had to learn that heart alone isn’t enough. You need systems. Boundaries. Structure. And sometimes the ability to say “no” in order to protect what you’re building.

But looking back, I wouldn’t trade the challenges. They built resilience. They sharpened my discernment. And they helped me develop the confidence to lead with both compassion and clarity.

So no, not smooth. But absolutely worth it.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Harmony Living Solutions provides structured, stable residential housing for seniors and adults navigating mental health challenges. We specialize in serving individuals who are often in transition whether that’s a hospital discharge, a family needing support, or someone who simply requires a more consistent environment.

What sets us apart is our balance of compassion and structure. Many places offer housing. We offer stability with systems behind it. We are intentional about compliance, operations, communication, and partnerships. Referral sources trust us because we’re dependable. Families trust us because we’re transparent. And residents benefit from environments built around dignity and consistency.

We’re known for being organized, responsive, and strategic. We don’t operate casually — we operate with purpose.

Brand wise, I’m most proud that Harmony Living Solutions truly reflects its name. There’s intention behind every property, every process, and every partnership. We’ve built something that feels personal but functions professionally.

At the end of the day, Harmony Living Solutions isn’t just a service. It’s a structured solution designed to create peace of mind.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
For me, mentorship has come from proximity and consistency.

I try to put myself in the right rooms, industry events, healthcare meetups, business conversations and I show up ready to learn. I ask thoughtful questions, follow up, and actually apply what I’m told.

The biggest thing? Respect people’s time. Be clear about what you’re building and what you need. And don’t just ask for advice, execute on it.

Networking isn’t about business cards. It’s about credibility. When people see you’re serious and consistent, relationships form naturally.
