Hidden Gems: Meet Cierra Whalon of Flawless X Cece

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cierra Whalon.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Originally from Austin, but I have lived in Houston for about 12 years. Before moving here, I started college courses at The Art Institute of Austin and worked as a retail manager at major brands Aldo and Express – which at the time, were at the top of their game. I remember finally being in Houston and knowing I wanted to be a part of the fashion scene and I would work as hard as possible to be involved. I started by looking for internships or any volunteering opportunities with fashion influencers around the city, as well as looking for steady income at the Galleria mall.

I didn’t know anyone here and I actually lived in a shared dorm (even though I wasn’t even a student). I have worked with some amazing people who have really inspired the Houston Fashion Industry. I wanted to change things up so I went to beauty school to get my manicurist license years later. My mom reminds me of how determined I am and that’s what pushes me harder. I honestly still have so much to learn and I’m so open to any knowledge I can gain, this journey is really just beginning. My brand, Flawless X Cece, which started as Flawless Claws, is currently expanding and I am working on new talents within the beauty industry and can’t wait to share what’s next.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road getting here and every day there are new challenges to face. As a business owner, consistency has been a struggle along the way. One day can be amazing and the next day may not be as good, it’s also pretty difficult juggling multiple things at once but to be honest, it’s all worth it knowing I am trying to build something that is bigger than me.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a manicurist, I offer a variety of services Full Nail Sets, Men & Women’s Pedicures as well as sell luxurious strip Lashes. My business is currently expanding into all things beauty. Which will include more services for men as well as services for children.

Recently, I was asked to do a pop up event for high school girls called “Bless-A-Dress”, giving them an opportunity to find the prom dress of their choice for no cost. After that event, I have researched a lot of ways to give back and can’t wait to hopefully work with that organization again and others like it. So whereas my business started as nails, it is growing into much more than that.

What sets me apart from most is my willingness to learn more & I think, the passion behind everything I get involved in. I do my best with everything, no matter what it is.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Practice makes progress and perfection, and consistency is key. Two things I constantly have to remind myself on a daily basis.
