Hidden Gems: Meet Cody Papuga of Amtex Overhead Doors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Papuga.

Hi Cody, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m third generation in the garage door industry. I started out working as a sales representative and residential installer/technician for my grandfathers company. After years of that, I moved to a huge commercial company where I worked long hours for very little pay . I did side jobs leveling houses on the weekends to be able to afford my bills and feed my family. They let me be me until I didn’t agree with what they told me to do. (Unsafe tasks that did not align with my morals) I left there and went back sit work for my grandfather’s company doing Comercial/ residential sales as a technician. After 2 years, I realized that was a bad choice because no mater how much I did for them it wasn’t enough. At one point I was the only person working there, gaining nothing, using my own money to grow myself under there name. Working people until they are so burnt out or die is a terrible way to treat anyone especially the people that support your business. I took the bad and chalked it up to experience that I gained. My father punished me for a month with no work and no pay, so I knew I had to do something. I used my knowledge and experience to branch out on my own. Many of my customers are word of mouth and people I have served over the years, none of which were customers of my family’s business. I started Amtex Overhead doors with nothing, no way to pay for anything, no advertising, no websites, no clue how to run a business. I worked long hours, did tons of research and attended many networking groups and events to meet the right people to grow my knowledge of being a business owner. Along the way I have met amazing companies, amazing people and have been able to slowly get my business off the ground and running. I enjoy the flexibility and freedom that I have to spend more time with my family and attend school and sports events that I wasn’t able to participate in before.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No it’s been it’s been like riding a donkey up a mountain. Took me a solid 9 months to get on google. Then I’ve been scammed out of money that I don’t have by so media/seo/ website company’s that promise that they can get me more customers but we haven’t received any roi.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Amtex Overhead Doors?
