Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Hira Mirza
Hi Dr. Hira, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Well, I am currently a Board Certified Podiatric Physician and Foot and Ankle Surgeon based in Houston, Texas. My journey into the field of medicine has been shaped by a deep-rooted commitment to patient-centered care and a passion for continuous learning and innovation. I LOVE my patients and I truly enjoy my job. I always say I am blessed enough to have good days and great days.
I was born in Stony Brook, New York, to immigrant parents pursuing medical residencies, and I learned early the values of health, diligence, and determination. My family relocated to Houston, Texas, where I attended Memorial High School went onto to continue my undergraduate studies at the University of Houston. Go ‘stangs, and go Coogs!
I graduated with honors in Psychology and a minor in Biology, which led me to my next phase in life: attending New York University (NYU), where she I into Neuroscience. During my graduate studies there, I was fascinated by movement disorders and sports medicine and went onto attended medical school in Cleveland, Ohio, before returning to Texas for her surgical training at HCA West Houston’s Podiatric Medicine and Surgery residency program, where I focused on Rearfoot Reconstructive and Ankle surgery.
I enjoy treating patients of all ages, from pediatric to geriatric populations and at our clinic we treat everyone like friends and family. We keep up with our patients to keep them moving and enjoying life!
It was important for me to create a a space for patients to share their concerns and embark on their healing journey with confidence. I firmly believe in the importance of mutual understanding, education, and patient advocacy. I will always ensure that my patients are comfortable, well-informed, and actively involved in their healthcare decisions and this is the pinnacle of my practice’s approach to patient care. My role as a doctor is crucial in the overall health and mobility of my patients, helping them maintain an active and pain-free lifestyle focusing not only on treatment, but also on prevention. My medical philosophy is embedded within the notion that a patient-doctor relationship is a true partnership, and as their physician, I will be with them every step of the way!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! I feel as though anything that is led by passion and genuine interest will have its challenges. I struggled initially with figuring out whether it was medicine I was meant for or another field that was similar. I allowed myself to explore other things but my heart kept bringing me back to patient care. Medical school itself was a huge adjustment for me. I was away from my family, in a new city and actually, this was the time period when I first developed anxiety! So naturally, learning how to manage that was not easy while also balancing studying and clinic. After medical school came residency: this was one of the biggest challenges that led to my greatest growth. I learned how to lean into myself as a female doctor and surgeon and use my “softer” qualities that are often beaten out of us in medical training, to make my patients more comfortable and to make them feel seen. I learned through these experiences that all of us have superpowers embedded within our personalities and it is essential we tap into that so we can grow and flourish!

Making people feel seen and heard includes empowering our patients in their own health. We spend a lot of time and dispense education materials for our patients to really know what is going on and we are always available for questions. This begins with developing trusting relationships with our patients and I believe that trust and familiarity with our patients is a huge part of our brand.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters to me most is my patients and making sure we deliver the best care possible because they deserve nothing less. The greatest honor is to treat people and heal their pain and I do not take that lightly. Patient doctor relationships are embedded in trust. I have seen my parents who are both physicians as well maintain these relationships with their patients for decades and it is one of the most beautiful things. Making sure I personalize treatment plans for each specific patient is also very important. Every person is different, so I try to base it off of each patient’s lifestyle, expectations and progression.
