Hidden Gems: Meet Gaston Kroneman of KIT Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gaston Kroneman.

Hi Gaston, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey into the fitness industry didn’t start from a place of natural aesthetic perfection. Growing up in Houston, I was what you might call a fat athlete, always a bigger guy playing baseball and other competitive sports, and always naturally strong. But after suffering multiple major injuries, I found myself needing to completely rebuild my life and my health. I committed to the process and ended up losing over 100 pounds through relentless consistency, research, and resilience. People often assume it was easy or that I was just born with this physique, but the truth is, I had to work for it. That experience proved to me that real change is built, not given.

Over the last 20 years, I immersed myself in the fitness world. I earned multiple Pilates certifications, taught spin, competed in men’s physique shows, and worked in modeling. But the deeper I got into the industry, the more frustrated I became. Today, we are living in an era of charlatans telling people they can tone and sculpt just by doing one form of exercise or heated classes. On top of that, we are seeing snake oil sales tactics pushing medications and supplements on people, promising false results that are completely unsustainable without continued use of those supplements or worse, at the cost of their long term health.

There is so much false advertising around what actually transforms a body, and KIT Fitness is battling to be the voice of reason. For nearly two decades, this gym was a brainchild of mine. My vision was to bring true weightlifting and strength training into a non-high-intensity setting, allowing people to take the proper rest needed for genuine strength training, because that is the scientifically backed and doctor-recommended way to actually change your body. This is why we are the ONLY medically certified gym in Texas that accepts insurance for training people with medical issues and we are recommended and referred by multiple doctors in Houston and the surrounding area.

Today, KIT Fitness is the realization of that vision. We’ve created a space that blends expert training, cutting-edge equipment, and holistic care. By pairing expert-led weight training with in-house chiropractic services, we focus on both gym performance and long-term vitality. My ultimate goal is to help clients achieve ‘The Look’ they want in a sustainable, realistic way, without sacrificing their health. At KIT Fitness, we’re not just building bodies, we’re building confidence, helping people move better, and empowering them to build a body that lasts. We jokingly say that our motto is “Workout to Look Good Naked.”

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. When you are trying to do something entirely different in an industry saturated with fads, there is naturally going to be friction.

One of the earliest struggles was securing capital. Funding a completely new, first-of-its-kind concept was incredibly difficult until I finally aligned with business partners who were equally as passionate and shared the exact same vision for what this space could be. Luckily I have been blessed with my 2 wonderful business partners who believed in a unproven vision.

Another major priority, and hurdle, was establishing our credibility. Early on, I actually planned to go to medical school to become a PA before I realized my true calling was on the fitness side of human optimization. Because of that background, it was an absolute non-negotiable for me that our program be doctor-recommended and have legitimate medical backing. Earning that trust from the medical community took time, but it is a cornerstone of who we are today.

Then came the challenge of real estate. We are not a neighborhood gym; people come to us from all over the city because we are the best gym in Houston for results. Therefore, finding a space that was centrally located and highly accessible was critical. We deliberately chose the Galleria area because it sits right off multiple major roads and highways, giving our clients alternate routes to easily get to the facility no matter what part of town they are traveling from. And… we have ample parking at all times of the day!

Ultimately, the biggest hurdle was simply getting people to step out of their comfort zones and try a concept that is the first of its kind. In a market where everyone expects instant gratification from gimmicks, we had to put our heads down and prove ourselves entirely through undeniable, client-generated results. Those results are what built our reputation and got us to where we are today.”

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
KIT Fitness bridges the gap between clinical care and fitness. We are known for bringing true, properly paced strength training back to the forefront, but what fundamentally sets us apart from anyone else in the industry is our level of medical integration and modifications for all clients.

We aren’t just a premium high end boutique gym; we are a medically certified facility operating under a Medical Director and a Nurse Practitioner, and we even accept insurance. We specialize in using evidence-based resistance training to support critical life transitions and recovery. Specifically, we are highly sought after for our work with postpartum, perimenopausal and postmenopausal women, focusing heavily on bone density health, as well as providing specialized programming for cancer recovery. We essentially act as a clinical extension of our clients’ healthcare teams.

Brand-wise, I am most proud that KIT Fitness stands as an uncompromising voice of reason. In a market flooded with shortcuts, smoke-and-mirrors marketing, and unsustainable fads, we have built a concierge, evidence-based sanctuary. We don’t sell snake oil; we deliver scientifically backed, undeniable results through hard work, expert coaching, and medical oversight.

What I want readers to know is that if you are tired of the gimmicks, we are here for you. We have built a destination in the Galleria area where you can experience a truly holistic approach to your well-being. From a practical standpoint, our workouts are completely streamlined, you have everything you need in one single station. There is no moving around, and you do not have to share dumbbells or equipment with anyone, making the entire experience far more sanitary and efficient. By combining expert-led weight training with in-house chiropractic and clinical care, KIT Fitness is designed to be your ultimate partner in strength, wellness, and longevity. And while we take the science of what we do very seriously, we also like to have fun with it. Our joking motto around the gym is ‘workout to look good naked’, because at the end of the day, looking good is feeling good.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most crucial, and frankly, the most frustrating, lesson I’ve learned is that fads will almost always be more popular than actual results. Human nature is naturally drawn to the false promise of achieving a major transformation in less time and with less effort. Because of that, staying true to a scientifically backed, results-driven model means you are constantly fighting an uphill battle. You have to swim upstream and find ways to keep up with fleeting social media trends just to capture people’s attention so you can finally show them what actually works. It is an unfortunate reality of the business today.

The other hard truth I’ve learned is about the reality of your personal support system. If you look around at your entire network of friends and the people you know, you have to accept that only about 15% of them are genuinely supportive of your biggest goals and will actively help you get there.

Interestingly, this isn’t just an anecdotal feeling; I learned this in business school at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) and it actually aligns closely with sociological research. Studies on human social networks, such as the widely cited research behind ‘Dunbar’s Number,’ consistently show that out of our broader social circles, only a very small fraction, roughly 10 to 15 percent, make up our active ‘sympathy group’ or core support layer. Learning to identify that small, truly supportive percentage of people, and not taking it personally when the rest of the crowd isn’t completely on board with your vision, is absolutely essential for pushing forward.” Knowing this information prior did not make accepting the reality any easier. I think this is mainly due to how we interacter with social media today. I was expecting a larger support group.
