Hidden Gems: Meet Gaven Burton of G. Marcahzzi by Gaven Marcahzzi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gaven Burton.

Hi Gaven, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My love for being fly and fashion started off at home. I had a mom that made it a point for us to wear play clothes for outside and we didn’t mess up our new clothes or nice stuff. My dad was in the Army (thank you to all that served), and instilled cleanliness and being sharp. My dad was always very masculine, classic and clean cut with his style. While my mom, was very feminine and alluring but conservative. My dad wasn’t big into labels but my mom and my grandma where and put me on. My dad’s parents are your typical deep rooted southern Christian’s that really put it on when it’s time to go to church. From my frequent trips to the south and traveling around the US as a military brat, I started to see more of the world and appreciate uniqueness. The cool Jordan’s and Jordan jerseys wasn’t catching my attention anymore. Seeing people step out of the box and encountering people that wore whatever they wanted and did not care became a new obsession. There’s something relieving about people who don’t care. There’s a sense of honesty; like there isn’t an ulterior motive. I also began to see fashion as a way to express myself and interact with the world through compliments, facial expressions and means to bond with those who are receptive. I realized fashion wasn’t necessarily about keeping up with trends or just putting on clothes, it became art and art is all about perspective and what you make of it. Everyone has their own style, and everyone’s style isn’t for me, but like many things, I can always find something I like to incorporate into my own. Butttt in that same breath I learned some things just look good on others and I can appreciate on them.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road in fashion has been a roller coaster. From self doubt, to self-criticism, fear, anxiety, depression, you name it and I’ve probably felt it. Not all tied to fashion but life obstacles can bleed into other parts of your life sometimes, well mine at least. Corporate world also made me feel like their unusual is not usual and to stick to what feels practical. I started to lose focus, fear failure and I was also burnt out from the lack of originality I saw in the world. I stopped caring about dressing and would just put clothes on. Eventually I got tired, tired of pouring into corporate America and not myself and blaming others when I am the one with the power. I since have transitioned into using my 9-5 to fuel my passion again until it’s my primary. I am also in the process of changing my primary job to something more fulfilling to me until I can fully support myself with fashion. I’ve got God and a lot of great people in my corner keeping me going along the way and reminding me of who I am. Corporate life can suck the energy out of me but is also a testament that I’m not walking in my craft which is also a motivator to get to my craft so I’m not in space I don’t want to be in.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am Gaven Marcahzzi the owner of G. Marcahzzi where I focus on editorial and wardrobe styling. Emphasis on focus, because I would coin myself as a jack of all trades; from set design, to image consulting, creative direction, and trying to dabble into photography/film currently. I can be impatient which in turn has made me become self sufficient.

Being in fashion, it being so subjective and there being a lot of fly people in the world can sometimes make me feel like, “why me?” What I realized is that my life experiences that makes me open to different creative expressions, my love to see people confident/happy, and my want for people to be themselves is what sets me apart part as creative. I am not trying to change who you are, but I do want to help elevate you in anyway I can. I would also add I’m very personable with my clients. It helps me understand how to bring the best out of them and make sure they still feel comfortable and confident.

As a creative I am most proud of seeing my designs and work on red carpets at NYFW, working with a celebrity stylist, working with celebrities and executives, helping designers during castings/fittings for NYFW, and seeing my visions and designs come to life in music videos. One of my music videos has over 100K views on YouTube which I styled, creative directed and did the set design for.

Be on the lookout for a new G. Marcahzzi rollout. I’m going to start doing more content on ig/tiktok, more post on personal style, more music videos coming out, and I have a few projects I’m working to release before end of year. During this revamp period I will still be taking new clients. My services include: personal shopping, closet audits, packing services, self-care regiment and special occasions. I have a range of barbers and hairstylists to suggest as well as a tailor on hand. My style ranges from funky street wear, sporty, grunge to high fashion; I can do it all. No matter if it’s editorial, commercial or television I can make you the main attraction. I am open to either in person or virtual consultations.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
In my line of business I think it’s important to be humble, kind, respectful, honest, and authentic. In everything we do, I think it’s important to remain authentic and loving. People like who they want to work with and what’s meant for us is meant for us. No one can block that. So when you show up as yourself, you allow things to flow as they should. Sometimes the flow is not in the direction you hoped but it also may be a learning lesson or blessing. It’s important to remain humble in those moments where there is something to learn so that you receive it in that moment. The last thing I would say is to remain a student. I always say I can be too good for a situation but not a person. I’m never too big to learn from someone. My nephews have been some of my biggest teachers. People need people, we all need each other.
