We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When I first opened my spa, I didn’t expect one of my biggest challenges to be communicating with my clients in English. As a native Korean speaker, it was tough to express the emotions and expertise I wanted to share. There were moments when I knew exactly what I wanted to say, but finding the right words felt impossible. I couldn’t connect the way I wanted to, and that was frustrating.
But I was determined. With months of studying and the incredible support from my English-speaking staff, things began to shift. I practiced constantly, listened closely to every conversation, and slowly but surely, I gained confidence.
Now, I’m able to chat with my clients comfortably, laugh with them, and offer advice without hesitation. It’s made the entire experience of running my spa so much more fulfilling. Looking back, it’s not just about the treatments I offer; it’s about truly connecting with each person who walks through the door, and that’s been one of the most rewarding parts of the journey.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
‘The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne, which I discovered in 2007, was the most life-changing book I’ve ever read. Through it, I realized the power of my thoughts and how much positive thinking could influence my life. After that, I became obsessed with learning more about the power of the mind, devouring books on the subject, as well as scientific and philosophical works that experimented with the idea.
This foundation gave me confidence when I moved to the U.S. in 2018. A whole new world unfolded before me, and every day felt exciting and filled with learning opportunities. The people I met and the lessons I learned seemed to align with the future I had envisioned. I picked up English along the way and earned my skincare license in Texas.
When I launched K-Beauty Lab last year, my business journey truly began. Thankfully, the business has grown, but with that came new responsibilities, ones that required the guidance of experienced business mentors. The problem was, having only been in the U.S. for six years, I didn’t know any successful entrepreneurs personally. That’s when I turned to the book “Tools of Titans.” Following the success habits and mindset of leaders across various fields helped me develop my own morning routines and success mindset.
This book has become like a business manual for me, something I refer back to constantly, taking notes and applying what I learn to my business. If “The Secret” has shaped my lifelong philosophy and thinking, then “Tools of Titans” has become the textbook for my journey to success
