Today we’d like to introduce you to Humayun Naqvi.
Hi Humayun, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It has been a life goal to become a physician. My father was a physician in Pakistan before he decided to move us to America for a better life. Growing up, I would go to his clinic and that grew my curiosity for medicine. I ended up doing my undergraduate degree, MBA, and medical degree from Texas A&M University. By my 3rd year of medical school, I knew I was highly interested in cardiology. After finishing my residency at UT Houston, I did my cardiology fellowship at UT San Antonio. I knew I wanted to return to Houston to start my cardiology practice.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road, but it has been a very rewarding journey. One of struggles of starting your own practice is the initial setup. Unlike several jobs, there is no instruction manual/training for the job. You have to figure it all out on your own, which was very daunting. Everything from the systems you put in place, the roles you create for employees, and the other moving parts that affect your business. It has taken a lot of mental capacity, time, and money. However, I would not have it any other way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The Covid-19 Crisis has changed medicine in many ways. One of the biggest consequences is that patients do not trust doctors, scientists, and other healthcare providers. Several people do not trust medicine and science. As a physician, I want to regain the trust by truly listening to patients’ concerns and make sure their concerns are addressed.
