Hidden Gems: Meet Huong Nguyen of Hues of Brows Beauty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Huong Nguyen.

Hi Huong, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a cosmetic tattoo artist. I was introduced into the beauty industry a few years ago by a friend. I started off getting my cosmetology license but soon figured doing hair, lashes or facial wasn’t it for me so I dive deeper into the permanent makeup side of the industry and say this is it! I enjoy creating art. So why not use my talent to make someone’s day. It’s a rewarding feeling to be able to lift someone’s confidence. So here I am today enhancing someone’s beauty.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh, this is a good question! Success doesn’t come easy for me. Running a small business is tough. The behind-the-scenes that nobody cares to know and hectic daily lives to keep it afloat can be draining. It takes a toll. But knowing and accepting that the learning and failing are part of the journey and that each case is a stepping stone, right? So you have to go through all these struggles in order to build stability. So every day, I wake up with a small reminder that it’s going to be okay don’t quit on yourself or your business. Keep pushing!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Hues of Brows Beauty ?
Hues of brows beauty is a professional permanent makeup studio. I specialized in ombré powder brows that has helped women achieve their brows goals. Creating their dream brows for each individual’s unique face and enhancing their natural beauty making them feel more confident.

I like to believe what set me apart from others are not comparing myself and my work to others. Because everyone has a different skill set and style. If I can’t provide what the client wants/needs, I have to be brutally honest and open about my professional opinion. In this beauty industry, as it’s growing and becoming more saturated, you have to build this layer of the mindset that you’re not for everyone and everyone is not for you. Every day you put your foot forward and do the best of your ability in what you have to offer.

Getting tattoos on your face whether it be brows, lips, eyeliners or anything is an investment. Cosmetic tattoo today has improved so much from what it was 3 to 20 years ago. So coming from that, a lot of clients would come in with wanting to get their previous work corrected. Some can be fixed and unfortunately, most can’t. So I can say my proudest is able to use my knowledge and create beautiful healed results for my clients.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was always a shy kid. I spoke when needed and do as told. Being the second oldest to my younger siblings and cousins, I babysat a lot. I spent most of my free time with my grandparents. My grandfather was very witty and crafty, there’s nothing he couldn’t fix/do or made. So whenever he had a project, I made sure to be there learning from him. If he was sewing something, I charm in. If he’s craving wood to make figure boats, I’m their front view. Sometime I would just sit there and doodles. Art has always been my interest. As growing to adulthood, I’m still that shy person but being around different types of people made me become adjustable not so socially awkward all the time. With that said, I am terrified of public speaking. I remember dropping out of a college class because I had to do a presentation speech about myself.
