Hidden Gems: Meet Iesha Anderson of New Beginning Mind Spa & Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Iesha Anderson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Since the first day I sat in my Sociology course I knew I found my passion. I was intrigued by human behavior and the nurture versus nature argument. I knew that after Community College I would declare a major in Psychology. While I was studying, Real Estate was my livelihood along with administration in community mental health. I graduated from Texas Southern University in 2013 with a BA in Psychology. I then pursued my MA in Counseling and graduated in 2017.

After the internship, I embarked on my journey of private practice. This is a journey I’m proud of as hearing a “statistic” didn’t sit well. I was a teenage mother and learned that in order to get to a replicable place in life, I would have to dismiss the negative projections upon my life by others. I made up my mind and I’ve been focused ever since.

I didn’t get here alone. My children, husband, in-laws, family, and friends were a strong village when needed. I’ve been practicing privately since 2018.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
A struggle I’ve encountered is being able to access capital that could be life-changing for many.

That capital would employ many Therapists who aren’t practicing privately because of overhead, etc. Another struggle is not being able to stretch me enough for the mental health needs society is currently experiencing. To know so many are suffering and without proper resources to get help, is a major struggle.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My husband has been my number-one cheerleader and supporter.

I’m forever grateful. My children have been the best, not ever giving me more than I could handle and supporting me. Also, family and friends have shown up every time to be a village. I’ve been blessed.
