Hi Issachar , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Ethiopia and lived in Europe and Canada before arriving in the United States. I’ve been in Houston for 25 years, and in 2016, I proudly became a U.S. citizen. With Houston being the energy capital of the world, it was only natural that after high school, I explored various retail jobs before joining Reliant Energy in 2008. That was the start of my journey in the energy sector, and I’ve been in it ever since.
Over the past 18 years, I’ve built extensive experience in both residential and commercial energy sales. At Reliant, I started with prepaid electricity sales and customer service before moving into “win-back” sales, where I helped recover lost accounts. I continued advancing through multiple departments, gaining a deep understanding of the retail energy landscape. After nearly a decade, I transitioned to a competitor in residential sales, and in 2018, I was introduced to an energy broker specializing in commercial accounts. That introduction shifted my career focus entirely to the C&I marketplace, where I became an independent energy broker.
Meeting my wife, Jennifer, in 2018 was a pivotal moment in both my personal and professional life. She introduced me to the business I am launching in Summer 2025, just a few months after we met. Her support, insight, and encouragement have been instrumental in shaping my entrepreneurial journey. We got married in 2023, and since then, my life has changed in more ways than I could have imagined.
Throughout my career, I have personally closed over 1GW of residential solar, wind, and commercial energy procurement. Between 2018 and 2024, I also explored various entrepreneurial ventures, which gave me invaluable business insights. Those experiences, combined with my deep expertise in energy markets, led me to establish my own commercial and industrial energy company.
Now, in 2025—17 years after first stepping into the industry—I am preparing to launch a company that leverages AI to optimize wholesale energy purchasing from suppliers and deliver cost-effective solutions to commercial and industrial operators. We are starting in Texas, with plans to expand as we grow. Our focus is on providing smarter, data-driven energy procurement and building a top-tier B2B sales organization that delivers unmatched value to clients.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest struggle for me has been staying focused amidst so many opportunities. With a diverse network, I’ve had to learn how to stay committed to one path and how to say no. Coming from Ethiopia, where opportunities are scarce, adjusting to an environment with abundance has been challenging but also rewarding.
