Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Westfahl
Hi Jason, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Kaptiva Sports Academy TX is a niche soccer group in the Sugar Land and Southwest Houston area that is using the love of the game to empower youth to help them achieve the dream of playing at the next level, be it in college or professionally. Players are educated in aspects of what it takes to reach the next level both on and off the field. Their focus must be on their grades and education, while excelling on the field, learning the tactics and skills that make them an elite player.
Kaptiva has always had success with the high school age group players due to the number of players that we are able to move to the next step in their career, but we are now branching into the younger age groups in hopes of having more years with them to increase their level by the time their youth soccer career comes to a close. Our youngest age group is now 2017 ranging to players born in 2006.
We have always attracted the elite players and had a personalized focus on select teams, but our biggest success stories are from taking a developing player and seeing them through the process of hard work and perseverance to achieve that same next level as those with natural talent.
Our players can benefit from select showcases that the club has access to, and unique travel opportunities that not only expand their exposure but provide cultural growth. Our direct relationship with Kaptiva Sports Academy in Spain provides an outlet for those ready for an international experience. This fall we will have two players move from our Sugar Land campus who were selected for a one-year residency with Kaptiva in Spain, in hopes of signing with a professional team. We also loaned a player to our Spanish partner to compete in the MIC, which is the best youth soccer tournament in the world. Greats such as Messi, Christiano Ronaldo, and Neymar have participated in the MIC.
When people talk about Kaptiva, they note that our training is like no other. Based on Spanish Methodology, we challenge players to be creative and to feel the game, playing with passion and pride for the jersey they represent.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The Houston landscape of soccer is challenging, with an abundance of clubs for players to choose from, but our focus on the player and leading with integrity has led to our success.
As you know, we’re big fans of Kaptiva Sports Academy TX. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Kaptiva has gained popularity quickly and is known for producing quality players and ultra competitive teams, rising to the top of the tables in our gaming leagues. We proudly participate in the USC (United Soccer Clubs), ECNL Regional League, Houston PDF, and the UPSL.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Parents should choose the right fit for their child. Not all clubs put a focus on understanding the game at a young age. This knowledge is a key piece to the player’s overall soccer IQ which directly correlates to performance on the field. Kaptiva’s priority is to build smart soccer players.
