Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeanna Syers.
Hi Jeanna, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Luke has worked in the refineries since his early 20’s, he was burnt out. He had already been through 3 explosions and felt his safety was too much at risk. I had been a homemaker for the last 12 years and I was ready to get back in the work field utilizing my skills in bookkeeping and customer relations. Our son-in-law, a body builder and competitor wanted to open a gym, so I told Luke to quit his job, lets open a gym with he and our daughter, so that we did. We began our business owning journey in Feb, 2024. We found a place to open the gym, we renovated the space and opened to the public Nov., 2024.
It’s not easy being a business owner, it definitely has it’s trials and tribulations, but it’s been interesting to say the least. We each brought something to the table. Luke brought his maintenance and organization skills. Our son-in-law brought his knowledge of the gym life and knowledge of all the equipment. Our daughter brought her knowledge of gym life, management and organization skills. I brought my accounting, customer relations, organization and management skills.
We have all worked very hard to create a fun, healthy, and welcoming atmosphere for gym goers. We are not a big commercialized gym, we are the complete opposite! We get to know our members and make them feel like family. We give them the comfort and the space they need to work on their fitness goals.
Our moto is “We treat our guest like members and our members like family”.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Personalities clash, money gets tight, and it’s tough working together with family at times. One thing is for sure, you can’t always make everybody happy. Although it has been tough, I still hold my head high, put a smile on my face cause I know God is always with me. He has never failed me and He isn’t going to fail me now. I stress this to all of us…You must keep the faith!
We’ve been impressed with The Dungeon Gym, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our business is a fitness gym. We cater to all body types. Weather you are looking to lose a few pounds all the way to becoming Mr. Olympia. We have the workout equipment and amenities to help them get there. Our amenities consist of a stand up tanning bed, a cold plunge, a sauna, and a full body massage chair. We also offer 24/7 access to our members. We also offer day passes. The day pass is a 24 hour pass with full access to all the amenities. We do not break our membership down excluding amenities, it is all inclusive.
We also have family add on plans. It allows you to add family members on to your membership for a reduced price. We have prep meals available, a for sale by the scoop pre-workout and supplements, as well as t-shirts and hoodies.
We are most proud of the atmosphere we have created. How we make our members feel heard and like family. We ask what they want, what they would like to see in our gym and we do our best to fulfill that. Of course it may take time to do so, but at least we work hard towards doing so. We have already changed out several pieces of equipment due to the request of our members.
Our lighting and esthetics are very important. The darkness helps the person focus more and toon things out. It also helps to view the definition of their body better, along with the photos and videos they take.
Most important thing to know about The Dungeon Gym is you will have a place to come and be you! To fulfill the goal you are working so hard towards and in the process, you have us and others to cheer you on and help inspire you. We have certified trainers and certified nutritionist. We have tried to touch upon all the things our members want and need to be successful in themselves.
What matters most to you? Why?
God, family and others is what matters the most to me. I was brought up in the church and taught how important faith is and how to love yourself and one another. We do not leave nor hang up the phone without saying “I love you”. You never know when God will turn that page in His book and one of us will be gone. I want our members to feel this same love and care. So far, I think we have done a pretty good job letting them feel that.
We also care very much about our first responders and military. We deeply appreciate them. My dad was a 20 year retiree of the Air Force , a veteran of Vietnam, and had worked in law enforcement. Luke’s dad was a 4 year Marine and veteran of Vietnam as well as a dedicated firefighter and captain for 25 years. To show our appreciation, we give a discount to them on their membership purchase.
