Hidden Gems: Meet Jennifer Blandon of JB & Associates Counseling PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Blandon.

Hi Jennifer, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hi, my name is Jennifer Blandon, LMFT-A. I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, proudly of Colombian descent, and a first-generation college graduate. My story really starts with the parts of my life that weren’t easy—growing up with trauma, trying to figure out my identity, and learning how to navigate adulthood without the support or guidance I desperately needed. Looking back, I always wished I had someone who understood the cultural layers, the silence, the resilience, and the invisible battles. That longing is what ultimately pushed me into this field.
I became a marriage and family therapist and later trained in trauma-informed care because I wanted to offer what I didn’t have. I wanted to create a space where young people, families, and adults could feel understood, not judged. A space where culture and mental health could exist in the same conversation without shame.
I’m originally from New Jersey, and making the move to Texas was one of the biggest and boldest decisions of my life. It meant leaving behind everything I knew so I could chase a dream that felt bigger than myself. That leap eventually became JB & Associates Counseling PLLC, my private practice that I built with the intention of bridging the gap between my Latin community and mental health services. But honestly, it’s grown into something even deeper.
At JB & Associates, we work to challenge the stigma around mental health—not just in the Latin community, but in ALL communities, regardless of race, background, or sexual identity. My goal has always been to create a genuinely safe space. A place where clients can explore their emotions, build coping skills, challenge old patterns, and rebuild their sense of self and connection to others.
We want to help people develop the tools they need to show up as their best, most successful selves—not just in therapy, but in every part of their lives.
My journey is one of healing, risk-taking, and purpose. And every step—every challenge, every achievement—has brought me closer to the work I feel called to do. I’m proud of where I came from, and I’m proud of what I’ve built. And, honestly, I’m just getting started.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have definitely been a lot of struggles throughout my journey. Starting my dream in a completely new state, with no family nearby and no familiar faces, was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. I had to create my own sense of community from scratch. I found support in the places I could—through work, church, local events—anywhere that helped me feel a little more grounded and a little less alone.
Building my private practice was another challenge all on its own. I had to learn how to become a woman of many hats: the therapist, the social media creator, the manager, the business owner, and the leader my employees and future therapists could look to for guidance. None of that came with a roadmap. I had to figure it out step by step, mistake by mistake, and lesson by lesson.
But every struggle pushed me to grow into the woman I am now—someone who isn’t afraid to build something from the ground up, even when the ground is unfamiliar. Someone who knows that leadership isn’t about perfection; it’s about showing up, learning, and leading with heart.

As you know, we’re big fans of JB & Associates Counseling PLLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
JB & Associates Counseling offers virtual or in-person therapy sessions for individuals, families, and couples. Services are offered in English and Spanish with therapists specializing in trauma informed care. We make it a priority to meet each client exactly where they are. Our approach is fully person-centered, and every treatment plan is tailored to the individual because we truly believe there is no “one-size-fits-all” solution when it comes to mental health. Everyone’s story is different, and their care should reflect that.

How do you think about luck?
Luck and God have definitely placed me in all the right rooms with powerful women who have helped me become a better therapist and mentored me into how to run a successful business. I believe this community is truly what helped me and it is the community I aspire to continue to build to help others along their journeys of entrepreneurship whether it be in mental health or other fields.
