Hidden Gems: Meet Jenn Perez of Texas Skyline Properties

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenn Perez.

Hi Jenn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
In the financial crisis of 2009, I witnessed a lot of people losing their homes and I felt that the real estate industry did not provide enough information to people with accurate or additional knowledge to ensure they were making financially good investments. I wanted to make a difference in this field by giving clients the support and information needed. While I was in the industry, I also found a lot of agents who were not providing customers with more information and what they should be aware of when buying/selling a home. I wanted to ensure it wasn’t just a commission check for me but that I was leaving each customer with the knowledge they needed to make the right financial decisions. When I decided to get my real estate license, I was also in the process of getting my bachelor’s in legal studies, worked full time and had 3 boys. As the years went by, I went through ups and downs and was found in the lowest part of my life when I went through a divorce. I decided to work full time in real estate and got my broker’s license because I wanted to set an example for my boys and wanted to show any woman out there who was going through the same situation as I was, that it is possible to overcome obstacles and become someone.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It wasn’t a smooth road for me. Because I spent the majority of my 20’s raising my boys, I didn’t have many friends. I didn’t go out to socialize or meet many people so to start real estate with that background, it was very hard. Additionally, I didn’t start at a big firm (was a family firm) and I had to find my own contacts and clients. I worked hard and used what I knew and started to build relationships and the trust of people. It took me almost 1 year to close my first transaction, but ever since then, it has been nonstop. I keep close relationships with all my clients even today. I have clients who I have known for 12 years and they have bought a home, sold a home and bought another home, etc. with me.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a multilevel, fully integrated, Bilingual brokerage that develops and empowers agents with knowledge while advocating for our buyers and sellers. Our company also specializes in creating agents that are experts in certain fields. For instance, Airbnb, investments, commercial, whole selling, foreclosures and short sales. In this industry, you have to find your niche. There are a million agents out there but you have to find what you’re good at and stick to that. Another important detail to remember is that in this current market, the house sells itself. You have to sell yourself and give potential clients a reason to want to work with you. We help you develop your selling skills and individualize your training to give those potential clients a reason to work with you.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risk-Taking is a must. I only have one life to live and I want to take that step of faith and try to accomplish what I can. I don’t see failure as failure, but just a step closer to success. One of my biggest risks was starting my own real estate firm. I heard so much negativity and discouragement, but I decided to take the jump. It has cost me a lot of time and money and I may not be as big as some of the other firms you see, but it has been the best decision I have made.
