Hi Joshua, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
YOYO HOTDOG began in 2010 as a late-night food cart in Houston, founded by Danny “YoYo” Kim my father. Drawing on his background as a sushi chef, Kim crafted a unique hot dog featuring cream cheese, caramelized onions, fried onions, and a signature “YoYo sauce,” all served on a toasted bun . The cart quickly gained a cult following, with patrons lining up for hours in Rice Village to experience what many described as a “life-changing” hot dog .
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Of course not—it definitely wasn’t a smooth road. Starting any restaurant is tough; one in three fail. We had to learn everything—from making great food and marketing to handling contracts, equity, and constantly improving recipes and customer experience. It’s a nonstop grind, but worth it.
