Hidden Gems: Meet Karim Alhakim of 365 Furniture Now

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karim Alhakim.

Hi Karim, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story is not the most interesting. I often describe it in two metaphors. My goal has been to be like a Swiss Army knife; a tool with many functions (skills). With it, you can do lots of things (help your community in different ways).

It’s like a math equation. 2 X 10 = 20. I am the 2. And the 10 is the resources, relationships, and experiences I feel so lucky to have been gaining in America. That’s why I think of myself as a tool. Also a product of my experiences.

This product was made In Egypt and Assembled in America.

I moved to America at the age of 18. and since then I had a variety of jobs that I loved; here is a list of them.

– Front Service Team Member at Panda Express.
– Assistant Accounting Manager at Dr. Durrani’s office (An amazing Urologist at West Houston Medical Center).
– I also worked Limousine Driver. (Drove Nike Executive Team during the super bowl & The crew for MBS of Saudi Arabia during their visit) after that, I decided to have my Limo company. For some time, I was trying to let everyone know about me by offering $25 airport trips.
– Valet runner. (money wasn’t good but did it for driving the supercars lol)
– I had a staffing company ” All things jobs ” connecting job seekers with administrative positions.
– For a year, I worked at HostGator (GoDaddy competitor) as Technical Support Engineer.
– Finally, Assistant Construction Manager developing Town Homes in the Heights and after that, I started a beautiful trip in furniture.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The three obstacles that challenged me the most were Going to school, Spanish and manufacturing vanities in Mexico.

Going to school while working wasn’t all fun. Sometimes you would miss out on quizzes cuz of work and other times you would miss out on work cuz of quizzes. I am glad to say it was worth it. Just this Fall of 2021 I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management from the University Of Houston “Goo Coogs!”

Second challenge was Spanish, a language I knew nothing about moving to Houston. After knowing that’s it spoken by more than 6 million people in Texas and more than 37% of Houston residents, I knew I had to learn it. I am still learning it and I love the language already.

Last challenge was for us to grow we had to find a way to make our own vanities. Luckily, Summer of 2021 we were able to attend Guadalajara Muebles Expo. We attended in hopes to discover & expand onto more products to meet a demand increasingly created by a city we are proud to be a part of ❤️ Houston.

Expo Guadalajara was an event for furniture industry professionals including factories, wholesalers, designers & retailers. We were able to start lines of communication with industry leading Mexican companies.

Currently, Mexico plays a significant role in our ability to offer certain high quality products. At 365 Furniture we are happily & eagerly working towards more and more partnerships with Mexican furniture (makeup vanities ) suppliers.

Today we are very proud our vanities are being manufactured in Mexico. Arriba Mexico. 🇲🇽 💪🏼
