Hidden Gems: Meet Katya Morozova of Tennis with Katya

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katya Morozova.

Hi Katya, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I come from Russia. I started playing tennis at the age of 8 and fell in love with it. My dad was an ex pro hockey player and worked as a policeman and my mom was a gymnast and owned a small convenience store. I played a lot of junior tournaments and after winning the Russian championship at the age of 13 in doubles I started playing more ITF and WTA tournaments but my parents didn’t have enough money for me to travel so we decided to try playing college tennis in the United States. I moved to America all by myself at the age of 16 without knowing anyone and didn’t speak any English and played D1 line 1 singles and doubles. (University of Kansas) Also still played on the ITF and WTA while in college.

After college, I decided to start coaching as I always had a passion for it. I moved from Kansas to Houston in 2012 and at the age of 20 started my own business. It has been the best decision ever as I do what I love and I help people. Today I am a working mom of three amazing kids and I have the best job I could ever ask for. My oldest son has special needs and having my own business gives me flexibility and opportunity to be there for his doctor’s appointments, therapies, procedures and surgeries.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been easy but God has been so good to my kids and me. I work very hard, treat everyone with respect, do my best to help and appreciate every single one of my clients. So many of them became like family to me.

As you know, we’re big fans of Tennis with Katya. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I coach tennis to all ages and all levels. I coach private, semi-private and group lessons. Also, work with those trying to improve their fitness, get in better shape and help special needs individuals learn fun game of tennis. I absolutely love what I do and take pride in every single one of my players. My goal is to make sure everyone is learning and improving while working hard and having fun.

What’s next?
I plan on continuing to bless people with my services and getting more and more individuals involved in tennis. I also plan on getting more involved and training those who don’t have the finances to play tennis and helping special needs individuals learn tennis.
