Hi Kierra, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey began with earning a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Accounting from the University of the District of Columbia, which provided me with the foundational knowledge to navigate complex accounting and financial landscapes. However, I quickly realized that the traditional education system didn’t equip individuals including my family with the practical knowledge necessary to achieve financial stability and freedom. Determined to be part of the solution, I made it my mission to teach financial literacy and empower others to take control of their finances.
In 2018, during my senior year of undergrad, I founded Bigger Than Key—what started as a YouTube channel focused on financial education, Bigger Than Key soon evolved into a service-based business. By 2021, I transitioned into offering personalized financial services and resources, including QuickBooks bookkeeping, fractional CFO support, virtual webinars, and digital products tailored to meet the unique needs of individuals and small businesses.
While advancing my career as a full-time federal auditor and staff accountant, I refined my expertise in financial systems and accounting processes. These roles equipped me with the skills to offer my clients practical strategies to generate, grow, and sustain their wealth, while also helping them cultivate a healthy relationship with their finances.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When your purpose is bigger than you, the journey is bound to come with its share of challenges. When I first launched my company, access to information and resources was far more limited than it is today. The rise of AI and social media has redefined how we share and access knowledge. Much of what I know now has been hard-earned through trial and error and investing in paid mentorship to refine my skills and strategies.
More recently, relocating to Houston Texas to scale my business presented a fresh set of hurdles, including building a client base and network from scratch. While there were moments of doubt, my faith in God has remained my guiding force throughout the journey. Every setback has served as a stepping stone, enabling me to create innovative solutions for my clients and turn challenges into opportunities for growth and success.

Bigger Than Key is a purpose-driven business I founded to empower individuals and small business owners to achieve financial freedom and stability through education and personalized financial services. I specialize in simplifying complex financial concepts, making them accessible and digestible for everyone, no matter their background or level of financial literacy.
My services include bookkeeping, fractional CFO support, and financial literacy education. What sets me apart is my unique combination of technical expertise and genuine empathy. I take the time to deeply understand each client’s needs, goals, and challenges, tailoring my approach to ensure they feel confident and supported throughout their financial journey.
What I’m most proud of is the transformative impact I’ve had on my clients—not just financially, but mentally and emotionally as well. I want to thank my college mentor, Catrice Collands, for encouraging me to pursue entrepreneurship and planting the seed for what Bigger Than Key has become.
