Hidden Gems: Meet Kyra Timmons of Melolinks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyra Timmons.

Hi Kyra, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Throughout college, I never saw myself as a business owner. I craved a corporate job, and was so excited to take that path. I actually didn’t change that mindset until I traveled to Asia for about 6 months, and realized that once I got a job, traveling for long periods of time is not something I could easily do anymore. When I was finishing up college, I started my first “entrepreneurial” project. I put quotations around it because this project was essentially me just falling for one of those online courses promising that you will make loads of money selling on Amazon… I lost 10k… Not learning anything from this experience, I decided to start trading options for income. Call it beginners luck, but I profited from every trade I made for my first 3 months. On a high from this, I decided to travel to South America, using trading as my main source of income. Reality hit me shortly, and I lost everything in the next 3 months. The lesson here, is that most of the time, anything that will make you money really fast is not sustainable. Being humbled by both of these experiences, I started my first W2 corporate job. The job was fine, but I was in an environment where my peers would come to work and complain about their job, every. single. day. I liked my job at first, but eventually I joined in the complaining. Before I knew it, I was miserable. I honestly think that without all the complaining, I would still be there today. So I guess in a way I am kind of thankful for it lol. Looking for a way out, I got my license to be a financial advisor… and I gave up on this path pretty quickly. For a lot of entrepreneurs, they will start a lot of different things, realize how hard it actually is, give up, and start something new. This becomes a cycle until you learn how to break it, and push through the hard. Finally learning this lesson, I promised myself that whatever I did next, I would never give up. Thinking of what to do, my mom (who owns an apartment locating business) needed help managing her google ads account. I asked her if I could run her campaigns (with no experience), and being a very supportive mom, she put her business on the line so that I could play around and learn google ads. Fast forward about 3 months, and I quit my job to pursue digital marketing full time. Two years later, and my mom is my most supportive, loyal client to this day.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The best way to explain this is that when you go into entrepreneurship, you know it is going to be hard. BUT (for most), it is way harder than you think it is going to be.

There are a lot of obstacles I went through in growing the business itself, but the main challenge for me was building the mental toughness that you need to succeed. When I first started, things were very exciting, and I was very optimistic. In this headspace, entrepreneurship seemed a lot easier, but at this time I was still very ignorant to the real challenges. I wasn’t making much money, but I was expecting this– I had savings. Now, going into my second year, throw in the stress of no more savings, and nearly maxing out my credit cards. You can imagine how the financial hardship, on top of the many obstacles that come with actually growing a business itself, can put you into a state of pessimism.

I got to a place where I did not have any time for more clients, but I also was not making enough money to support myself. When starting a business, I thought the hard part would be getting clients, but I was very wrong. The hard part is building systems that work. Learning what to delegate, and what is worth your time. What can you change so that you have more time? How do I actually create something that is profitable?

In the beginning, I wanted to be an entrepreneur because I wanted freedom, and I wanted money. I quickly found out that being an entrepreneur means having no time, and having very little money – at least when you’re starting out. Choosing not to give up, when all the signs, and people around you are saying “this is not working” is one of the biggest struggles I faced, but it is also the most rewarding.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am a freelancer specializing in digital marketing, but am on the path to grow an agency. My speciality is in building landing pages for ad campaigns, and designing websites for all types of businesses. Additionally, I have partners who assist with helping businesses rank on google (SEO), and managing google ad campaigns. With all of these services combined, I specialize in helping businesses build a lead generation system.

To succeed with an agency, a lot of people in this industry cut a lot of corners. They will build templates for websites, and re-use them for their clients. They will charge you a monthly fee to manage your google ads account, but then never spend any time on it once it is launched. I could go on and on. What sets me apart is that I am very transparent with my clients. I will not promise you anything, or make any guarantees, but when you work with me, you will know what to expect.

Watching my clients feel a since of relief after receiving quality leads is what drives me. Getting to be a part of the success in other peoples businesses is why I continue to do what I do.

What’s next?
Right now, me and one of my partners are building out a new, innovative system for building leads. I don’t want to share too much regarding the project, but it is exciting nonetheless.
