Hidden Gems: Meet Laura Croom, NP of Made For Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Croom, NP.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Absolutely, I have always been passionate about health and wellness and I knew I wanted to be in the medical field from a young age. I became a RN in 2000 and worked in nearly every specialty. I went on to become a dual certified Adult/Gerontology Nurse Practitioner, graduating with my Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas in 2012. Since that time, I have worked in the areas of Primary Care, Physical Medicine-treating joint and muscle pain, Urgent Care, and Integrative Medicine. Due to some of my own health challenges, I approach medical care with a more root cause approach as opposed to simply treating conditions with medications. One of the reasons I chose to open my own practice is so that I could spend more time with patients, having worked in Primary Care where most visits are limited to just 15 minutes. I chose the name “Made For Wellness” because I feel we are all made for wellness, but sometimes need a little bit of help getting there.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest struggle with owning my own practice is the business aspect of it. There was a huge learning curve that comes with that and there are definitely some things I would have done differently but it’s part of the process. No regrets.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
A medical clinic that offers several services including Primary Care, Medical Weight Loss, Hormone Replacement Therapy, Thyroid Care, Metabolic Health, Nutrition/supplements, Lab Testing, Pain conditions including back and neck pain, joint pain, arthritis, plantar fasciitis, neuropathy, and muscle tension.

My office is located inside of Super Slow Zone-a strength training facility.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
Having grown up in a very small town in rural Nebraska, I’ve always been fascinated by the city of Houston. I initially came to Texas when I was working as a traveling nurse nearly 20 years ago. Despite working in various locations around the country, I decided to make Houston my home. I enjoy the diversity, the food scene, an abundance of activities, and the people. I was blessed to be able to go to graduate school in the largest medical city in the world.
