Today we’d like to introduce you to Lesley Gomez.
Hi Lesley, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My background is in accounting and finance, but my path into mortgage lending became personal.
Years ago, people close to me lost their homes because they didn’t fully understand the long-term implications of their mortgage. That experience inspired me to understand mortgage lending on a deeper level, not just how to originate and approve a loan, but how all the financial pieces work together and ultimately affect the decisions families make.
Over the years, I’ve built my career in lending by combining that financial foundation with a strategic approach. I’ve learned that every borrower’s financial picture is different, and many times, the difference between a declined loan and a viable path forward is understanding how income, credit, debt, assets, and the right loan structure work together.
Today, I lead Haus of Credit with a focus on clarity and helping people make informed financial decisions with confidence.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve never really fit the traditional mold of the mortgage industry, and for a long time, I felt like an outlier. Throughout my career, I’ve been told I was doing too much, going out of my way, or going above and beyond. But I was determined to find solutions. That determination has earned me tremendous trust from clients, even when it wasn’t always understood or welcomed by others in the industry.
Along the way, I faced an incredible amount of opposition. I’ve dealt with criticism and difficult situations that made me question myself. I learned that thinking independently often means being willing to stand alone in your convictions.
One of the biggest lessons for me has been learning to trust my own perspective, even when it differed from those around me. I knew I wanted to do things differently, but it took time and experience to understand what that could look like. Over time, I gained the confidence and courage to develop a method that reflects the way I believe lending should be done.
Instead of simply following the traditional model, I’ve learned to question it, think outside the box, and create an approach that is more analytical and strategy-driven.
Those experiences taught me that going against the status quo is rarely comfortable, but resistance can also be a sign that you’re moving in the right direction when your intentions are grounded in doing what you believe is right.
Some of the most trying seasons have ultimately pushed me to become more resourceful, disciplined, and resilient.
We’ve been impressed with Haus of Credit , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Haus of Credit helps homebuyers, homeowners, and investors navigate mortgage decisions by looking beyond the loan itself. Whether someone is purchasing a primary residence, refinancing, investing in real estate, or needs a second look after being declined, the goal is to find the financing strategy that makes sense for their individual situation.
What sets me apart is the financial and technical foundation I brought into lending before I ever became a mortgage professional. Mortgage licensing teaches you the rules and requirements of originating a loan, but my background in accounting taught me how to analyze the financial picture itself. It trained me to work through complexity, understand why the numbers aren’t working, and recognize how changing one variable can affect the entire outcome.
Maybe some of that is innate. My father was an engineer, so I grew up around a very analytical, problem-solving way of thinking. Accounting sharpened it, and lending gave me a place to positively apply it to people’s lives. Together, those influences have taught me to dig deeper, think several steps ahead, and see connections that may not always be obvious.
I’ve become known for taking on scenarios that may have already been declined or considered too complex and identifying possibilities that may have been overlooked. I don’t accept an outcome at face value. I look at the variables, question the assumptions, and determine whether there’s a better path forward. That mindset has become a defining part of how I approach lending, particularly when a financial situation doesn’t fit neatly into a traditional box.
What I’m most proud of about Haus of Credit is how it brings a problem-solving mindset to genuinely serve the community. It represents a more thoughtful approach to financing, one that helps people understand not only what options are available, but why they make sense for their situation. Haus of Credit represents The New Standard in Lending.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My journey has been a little unconventional in that regard. I haven’t had one particular mentor guiding me professionally, and much of my growth has come through adversity, experience, and learning to trust myself.
Family has always been an important part of my story. My mom has been my biggest cheerleader, while my father and grandfather have been steady sources of support, encouragement, and strength throughout my life. My children are two of my greatest motivators. They’ve given me an even deeper sense of purpose and a desire to build something meaningful that extends beyond me.
Faith has also been a constant. There have been many times when I didn’t have a roadmap or someone telling me what the next move should be. I had to rely on my instincts, keep moving forward, believe in what I was building, and trust that the pieces would come together.
There have certainly been people who have encouraged me at different points in my career, and I’m grateful for every client who trusted me, referred me, and allowed me to be part of such an important financial decision.
When I look at my journey as a whole, I credit GOD 1000%. All the glory belongs to Him. He’s been there through every chapter, giving me the strength to persevere and the wisdom to navigate what I couldn’t always see, while blessing me with the opportunity to serve others through the work I do. I don’t take that responsibility for granted.
