Today we’d like to introduce you to Lesley Lewis.
Hi Lesley, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi! I’m Lesley Lewis, a real estate agent, at COMPASS in Houston, TX. Real Estate has always been a passion for me. My father was in commercial construction and built spec homes. I would spend weekends in High School with my family on the job sites, at open houses, in the slab yards, and just tagging along trying to learn as much as I could. My mother and father both had entrepreneurial spirits and incredible work ethics which is where my passion for real estate and running my own business came from.
In my sophomore year of college, I was presented with an opportunity to work for a broker and help college students with leasing. One of the best decisions I have made was getting my real estate license in college. When I graduated, I went to work in oil and gas in Dallas for about a year until I decided to use my license and become a full-time real estate agent. I started my real estate career in Dallas and I was lucky enough to work for a brokerage that really invested in new agents. My first broker really instilled in me that in order to be successful in this business, you had to show up, put in the hard work, and commit to this business.
The experience starting as my own agent is what landed me an assistant position to a top producer in Dallas. I learned a tremendous amount during this time period and it transformed and impacted the way I run my business today. Fast forward to 2018 and I moved back to Houston to start over and build my brand and career in my hometown. Ever since I have moved back I’ve been building my business and representing clients to buy, sell and lease homes in Houston. My business has continued to grow ever since and I’m very thankful to my clients who have trusted me to represent them and to those who continue to send referrals.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has definitely not been a smooth road for me and I really struggled to get started. When I started in this business I was 24 years old and every potential client thought I was too young. I had little experience, very little network in Dallas, and little confidence in myself. I really felt all odds were against me. It took me about a year to get my first client and sale, I was making no money at all. There were so many days I wanted to quit. But, I understood how important hard work, perseverance, and most importantly, showing up every day is in this career (and life). I was in this for the long haul so I kept learning as much as I could and working harder and harder to get that next client.
Fast forward a few years later and just when I felt like I finally had it together, I moved back to Houston. At the time, I thought, am I crazy? I had put all this time, money, energy, and work into the Dallas market. I didn’t know if I had it in me to start over again in Houston. Luckily, I knew what to expect and this time I had the experience, network, and confidence I didn’t have when I first started out. I invested heavily into my brand and hit the ground running. It took about six months to land my first client and then I just kept working towards the next.
The biggest lesson I have learned in this career is to appreciate and learn from the journey. I had to push through those hard times and work through them to grow. The lessons and experiences I learned along the way are what have made me great at my job. I wouldn’t be able to offer my clients what I do without learning from those struggles along the way.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in everything from first-time homebuyers to new construction inside the loop all the way to the Beltway. What’s most important to me is that my clients are well taken care of and I work extremely hard to make sure they receive the best representation possible.
My clients know they will always get access to me and I make myself available to them 24/7. I’ve really nailed down my processes and systems so that my clients have a seamless, stress-free experience. I make sure every last detail is taken care of for them. My clients know when they work with me they are getting an agent who has their best interests at heart, who knows the market, will fight for them when negotiating, and offer them a seamless, stress-free experience. I’m most proud when I see how happy my clients are at the closing table because we have found them the perfect place or have sold their homes at top dollar. I love the relationships I have built with my clients and when they are happy, that makes me happy!
