Today we’d like to introduce you to Linda Lopez.
Hi Linda, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve been interested in the brain and in helping people for as long as I can remember. That really started with my first psychology class in high school—it immediately clicked for me and felt like a natural path to pursue in college.
While I was in undergrad, I attended a campus career fair and ended up talking with a professor from a mental health counseling graduate program. He asked what I envisioned for myself after college, and when I shared my goals, he told me that counseling sounded like exactly where I was meant to be. That conversation really stuck with me, and from there, everything began to fall into place. It definitely wasn’t easy, but I always felt like I was moving in the right direction.
Over the years, I moved a few times before eventually settling in the Houston area. Along the way, I gained experience working in mental health hospitals in Dallas, then counseling services at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, and later in 2 different group practices in Houston. Each setting taught me something different and helped shape the counselor I am today.
Eventually, I felt called to create something of my own. With a lot of encouragement from my husband, I decided to take that step and start my private practice. Blooming Thoughts Counseling officially opened in 2024. I began as a fully virtual practice, and in 2025 I expanded to include an in-person office in Tomball, where I currently see clients one day a week. It’s been really meaningful to build a practice that reflects my values and the kind of care I want to provide.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some parts of this journey were smooth, but not all of it. I moved to 4 different cities in the matter of a decade after grad school.–one of them during the Covid Pandemic. This created some challenges in terms of consistency, but it also ended up being one of the biggest sources of growth for me. Each move and each setting pushed me to adapt, learn, and gain valuable experience that I wouldn’t trade.
Starting my own private practice was also a big step outside of my comfort zone. Graduate school prepares us clinically, but it doesn’t really teach us how to be business owners, so there was a significant learning curve. I’ve had to learn a lot along the way—and honestly, I’m still learning as the practice continues to grow.
We’ve been impressed with Blooming Thoughts Counseling, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Blooming Thoughts Counseling is a private practice I founded with the belief that therapy isn’t about fixing someone. It’s about helping you uncover a version of yourself that feels fulfilled, calm, confident, and no longer weighed down by the past.
I specialize in working with young adults and women in their 20s and 30s, particularly around anxiety, self-esteem, and sexual trauma — areas where I’ve seen so many clients feel stuck, weighed down by shame and guilt and overwhelmed.
My experience working on a college campus gives me firsthand insight into the emotional and academic challenges young adults navigate. It shaped how I support my clients during some of the most formative and overwhelming seasons of life. I stive to create space for clients to show up fully — even in their messiest moments — while offering practical tools and gentle challenges that build confidence, resilience, and growth.
One thing that sets me apart from others when it comes to trauma is that I offer Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)–a gentle, trauma-informed approach that often brings meaningful relief in a short amount of time. Many clients feel more grounded and confident without needing to talk through every detail of their trauma.
Ultimately, I want readers to know that Blooming Thoughts Counseling is a place where you are met with empathy, challenged with care, and supported through real transformation and lasting growth that aligns with what you value most.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
If you’re just beginning, remember that support is everywhere—you don’t have to navigate this on your own. There are free trainings, welcoming online communities, and peers in your area who are excited to connect and share the journey.
One thing I wish I knew that makes a big difference is finding your niche; it’s okay if it’s not clear yet, but once you discover it, pour your energy into it and let it guide your growth. You’re capable of more than you realize!
