Today we’d like to introduce you to Lyndsy Calato
Hi Lyndsy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in a small town in North Texas and spent my best summers on my grandfather’s cattle ranch in Oklahoma, where I developed a deep appreciation for hard work and handmade craftsmanship. During that time, I showed quarter horses at AQHA shows throughout Texas, where immaculate grooming of the horse and the spotless tailored appearance of the rider was paramount. Every hair had to be in place, and every piece of equipment needed to shine. After a 20-year break from riding during which I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, launched a successful interior design career, and started a family, I eventually returned to the show ring. I reignited my passion for horse and rider showmanship, embracing the meticulous grooming and proper hunter attire that gave me a confidence boost when entering the arena.
My career in design played an integral part in the creation of Heureux XII. Design sparked a love for art forms of all kinds, introducing me to the finest craftsmanship in the world, from textiles and antiques to lighting and sculpture. I was captivated by how things were made and the beauty of creating custom-designed solutions. This passion for artistry and attention to detail naturally flowed into my equestrian pursuits.
Heureux XII emerged from my desire to merge my design world with my equestrian passion, bringing the beauty of art into the equestrian realm. Initially, I envisioned it as a way to enhance the equestrian experience, but I soon discovered that the equestrian world became the foundation for a belt that brings beauty to everyone. After spending two years crafting a patented belt design, saddle pads with luxury textiles, and the Showcase, I was finally ready to launch Heureux XII. I quickly realized that the belt was not just for equestrians; at my first horse show pop-up shop, women who were there as spectators fell in love with the design and bespoke options. This unexpected interest opened my eyes to the potential for a wider audience.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Learning through experience has been the biggest challenge—after all, you don’t know what you don’t know! However, the equestrian world is incredibly supportive. I’ve met so many new friends, designers, and partners who have provided me with invaluable advice about every aspect of the business and product performance.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Heureux XII?
At Heureux XII, every interaction is crafted into a bespoke experience. While we offer a ready-made collection of belts I designed, our true passion lies in the customization process, which I personally guide for each client. This hands-on approach allows us to create unique belts and saddle pads tailored to individual tastes, ensuring every piece is as special as the person wearing it.
Our journey began with the Bespoke Saddle Pad collection, meticulously designed with textiles sourced from the world’s most prestigious design houses. Coupled with high-performance fabrics and an ergonomic design, these saddle pads prioritize the comfort of the horse without compromising on style. Recognizing the need for an elegant solution to store these exquisite pads, we developed the ShowCase Carryall—a beautifully designed carryall featuring transparent sides and durable zippers for instant access to pads or blankets.
The hallmark of Heureux XII is undoubtedly the Icon Belt. This signature piece features a patented design that prioritizes both comfort and confidence. The belt’s front leather section seamlessly transitions into elastic, providing a generous range of movement. With an elegant faux buckle and a unique leather panel designed to flatter the waistline, the Icon Belt becomes a versatile accessory. Our clients love the variety of color, leather, and band options, allowing them to create the perfect bespoke statement piece.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
At the heart of Heureux XII lies a profound tribute to the horses that have shaped my soul. The two magnificent horses—Bright ‘N’ Happy and Baker’s XII—played pivotal roles in my journey, guiding me toward success in all aspects of my life. Their spirit and grace inspired me to create a brand that embodies elegance and confidence.
Heureux means “happy” in French. Thus, I named the company Heureux XII, as a nod to both these extraordinary horses and my fondness for exquisite French textiles. This connection infuses every piece in our collection with a sense of purpose and passion, celebrating the harmony between horse and rider, and honoring the timeless bond that defines the equestrian experience.
The main objective at Heureux XII is the ability to create something bespoke for each individual client, allowing them to confidently represent themselves. Our collection includes high-performance saddle pads, bespoke belts, and saddle pad carryalls that emphasize couture details and custom options while ensuring exceptional performance for both horses and humans. More than just accessories, these products infuse confidence in our clients.
For me, it’s about presenting a timeless classic look that reflects attention to every aspect of my wardrobe. Just as you feel empowered when wearing your favorite outfit for a night out, I believe in showcasing your best self in every setting. Heureux XII belts can complete any look, providing elegance and a confidence boost—whether it’s for a successful ride in the ring or a memorable night out.
