Hidden Gems: Meet Mariette Blanco of Sweet Emotions Skin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariette Blanco.

Hi Mariette, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been an esthetician for over 25 years, with a deep passion for helping people feel confident in their own skin. My love affair with skincare began early in my career working for a plastic surgeon, where I learned the art and science of truly transformative skin health. After 18 years with Nordstrom, I took a leap of faith in the middle of the pandemic and built my own business from scratch, Sweet Emotions Skin, in my small town of Friendswood.

Today, I’m in the process of rebranding and moving into a new, curated studio space this October. My focus is highly personalized treatments, often collaborating with solo aesthetic injectors to host pop-up events that bring next-level results to clients. I’ve also expanded into fashion — selling and styling outfits on Whatnot — blending my two passions of beauty and style.

Beyond my work, I’m a proud mama of two adult children, an empty nester married to a retired Army veteran who served for 30 years, and a passionate animal lover who has fostered and adopted through multiple organizations. I’m a proud American and Jesus lover, putting everything I do in His hands.

What I value most are the relationships I’ve built — with my clients, other small business owners, and my community. I’d love the opportunity to share my story with your readers.
Mariette 🙂

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Yes, there have definitely been struggles along the way. When I went solo, most of my clientele was based in the Galleria area, so moving my business to the suburbs meant essentially starting over. In the middle of the pandemic, I was blessed to rebuild quickly by collaborating with local injectors, but not having a business background made those early years both exciting and scary — with plenty of mistakes to learn from.

Like so many other small businesses, this recent economy has been tough. When money is tight, self-care is often the first thing to go, and there were moments I was truly hanging on by a thread. Still, I’ve stayed committed to standing firm because I believe deeply in what I do. Over time, clients who drifted away have started circling back, and that’s why I chose to rebrand and personalize my business — to create something lasting and meaningful.

Of course, another challenge is the sheer number of estheticians everywhere, but I’ve always believed if you treat clients with care and intention, word-of-mouth will follow. I don’t advertise heavily outside of Instagram, and today I have the blessing of serving over 400 clients. To help supplement my income, I also leaned into my other passion — fashion — and began curating and selling live on Whatnot, which has been both fun and community-building.

The journey hasn’t been easy, but it has taught me resilience, creativity, and the value of truly investing in people.

As you know, we’re big fans of Sweet Emotions Skin. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?

I specialize in skincare and advanced skin treatments, with every service customized to the client in front of me. A big part of what I do is collaborate with solo injectors — not only providing corrective and preventative skin care, but also helping promote their expertise through pop-up style events. What sets me apart is that I don’t just treat skin, I build relationships and community while delivering real, lasting results.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me in business is making my clients truly happy. When someone comes in, glowing because their friends can’t stop complimenting their skin, that gives me chills — that’s why I do what I do. I believe everyone deserves to feel confident in their own skin at any age, and I love that my clientele ranges from teenagers to clients in their 70s. And most importantly, it shouldn’t have to break the bank to feel that way.
