Today we’d like to introduce you to Merissa Cole.
Hi Merissa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was first introduced to wedding planning like most are, having my own wedding. I loved the experience so much I reached out to assist at another company to make sure I was prepared and actually had a passion for weddings. It was phenomenal and my dream of owning my own business kept growing until we moved from Kansas to Houston in October of 2020. I then officially launched my business in April of 2021 and we have been very blessed with our success! To create relationships and experience in Houston, we did several styled shoots and an expo that has built out a community of wedding pros and clients. I also was in a mentorship program with one of the best planners out there, Wolfer & Co. and having her as my mentor has also pushed our business to even more opportunities.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We have honestly had a very uncomplicated start to our wedding planning business and we are so grateful for it! We have the best vendor friends and support so we are able to build at the pace we want with the people we want. God has been very gracious to us!
As you know, we’re big fans of Riss Creations. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Riss Creations is a wedding planning business in Houston Texas and surrounding cities! We offer Full Service Planning + Design, Partial Planning, and Month-of Coordination with a very hands on approach to meet all our unique couples’ needs. Our biggest driver is our faith focused passion for marriages. We exist to love God and serve people! In doing so we hope to bring back meaning to the wedding industry by taking away the stress of the planning process so our couples can focus on all the joys of engagement and prepare for the beautiful gift of marital life that they will get to enjoy after the party is over. We are able to achieve this by seamlessly integrating our professional process of designed details and managing moments with our passion for our couples.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I have learned in this business is that slow and steady is the best way to create something that will last the test of time! We are partnering with couples and opportunities that are best for us and that aline with our values and goals. In a city this big, there are all kinds of avenues to take to grow but deciding on which ones are of value to you and what you desire out of your future and choosing those over everything that comes your way is key. Our purpose isn’t to be the biggest planning company around but to serve people well and we want to make sure we fill our capacity with what is best for us. That way we are staying true to who we are, limiting burn out, and accurately and professionally doing the jobs we promised to our couples.
