Today we’d like to introduce you to Mitchell Brock.
Hi Mitchell, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
Absolutely. I went in for a routine checkup and blood work. When the results came back, my cholesterol was high, I was prediabetic, and I had hypertension (the latter of which would require medication). I was 30 years old and an All-Star minor league professional football player who also played baseball, softball, and basketball at least twice a week. And besides, I felt great. How could that be?!? Well, I was a busy man (as I also worked a full-time job), I was single, and basically lived on fast food and processed packaged foods. But after this report from the doctor, I KNEW something had to change. My mother had already buried one son, and she was NOT about to bury another on my watch! It wasn’t lack of exercise; I was getting plenty of that. There was only one thing left… my diet. I tried all the trendy diets. Keto, paleo, low-fat, carnivore. I even went vegan for 6 weeks. And guess what? They ALL worked! I lost at least 30 lbs. on each of them. The problem was when I got off of each diet, those lbs. came right back. And often, they brought a few friends with them! At one point, I had gotten up to 369 lbs.! It was then that I began to study the actual science of and took a holistic approach to nutrition. As I applied the principles that I was learning, the weight began to come off. Not only that, my cholesterol and A1C levels were dropping, and I was eventually taken off of the blood pressure medication! So, as friends, family, and social media friends saw my progress, quite naturally, they began to ask what I was doing. I was more than happy to share my knowledge. My wife, ever so observant, noticed the passion that I had developed for teaching nutrition to others. It was then that she suggested I turn my “passion into a paycheck.” I was already working a full-time job, officiating two sports, and doing sports media. How would I find the time? After much deliberation and prayer, I decided to take the plunge. I obtained my nutrition certification, filed for an LLC, and thus, Brock Nutrition was born!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As previously mentioned, at the time Brock Nutrition was founded, I was working a full-time job (that required travel, no less), working in sports media (which also required travel), and officiating high school/college football and high school basketball. Often, there just wasn’t enough time in the day to do all that needed to be done to launch and build a business. And when I had the time, I didn’t have the energy. But along with the tireless help and support of my amazing wife, I pushed through. We had MANY long nights! Then, it was time to start advertising and recruiting clients. A lot of the people who once desperately sought my knowledge had disappeared now that it came with a price tag. Despite a LOT of early discouragement, I continued to do the work. Now entering our 3rd year in business, Brock Nutrition has and continues to assist numerous people in “Building A Healthier Lifestyle”!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Brock Nutrition?
Brock Nutrition’s niche is 100% customization and personalization. Each client will receive service/plans that are conducive to their personal needs, likes, capabilities, and lifestyle. If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I grew up in Detroit during the 80s and 90s. I was an honor roll student, and although a chubby kid, I was athletically gifted as a standout football and baseball player. I was also a HUGE WWF (now WWE) fan, and my brother took me to the matches anytime they were in town. I was raised by a single mother, but my older brothers and coaches served as the male figures in my life. I was a goofy, outgoing kid…. but a little shy and reserved at the same time (usually around girls 🙂
