Hi M’kalia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved to Houston at the age of 20 trying to find myself because I was very troubled. Going through troubled relationships, friendships just completely lost in a new state & felt completely alone. A few years after I had a major setback going viral all over for a bad breakup as “stranded bae” from that situation I turned my situation into a good one. I started a modeling career, and from there I got into Houston nightlife as a waitress/bottle girl. Spent 4 years in the industry & from there I started my own all-women’s promotion & staffing company “ Top Tier Promotion”. Decided to use my story to inspire & motivate other women so I also started my own women empowerment group “ BlackWomenMeet.Com” my goal is to inspire & motivate every woman with a story to tell. Within the next year, I plan to start my own non-profit organization for young teen women.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The struggles I had to deal with were simply finding myself & figuring out, “who is M’kalia?” I suffered from depression for a while & really didn’t have that self-love I knew I deserved. Suffered from homelessness, just trying to find my way. But I can absolutely say my struggles made me the woman I am, I learned to love myself before I wanted anybody else to.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Top Tier Promotion?
Top Tier promotion is an all-women’s promotion & staffing company. All women are top-tier in my eyes. I started this business 7 months ago & it’s all been so worth it!
My business consists of staffing waitresses & bottle girls for job positions in different clubs and lounges in the city of Houston. I also staff them for events outside of the nightlife in Houston!
I think I’m more proud of myself because this is something that is mine, that I created for myself that nobody can take from me! This is something I’ve wanted to do for so long, especially already coming from the nightlife as a waitress myself. The most important thing to know about my business is that there’s nothing polished about it. I’m all about uplifting and putting my girls in the best position to win! Teaching women that we can win without a man helping! We can win without putting down the next woman. Building structure, having fun but still being our feminine selves!
What does success mean to you?
Success is reaching your purpose. Really achieving your most desires! Success isn’t always money, it’s having wisdom, self-confidence, self-love. Giving back, knowing your values!
